adler_1 Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 hello today i flew my first combat mission in this aircraft and i noted almost everything except the Prop RPM is automatic . I took off with 50% fuel and flew defense over a base . Temperatures under control as well as the RPM's combat and cruise . Then after quiet a while maybe within my 1 HR fuel limit i calculated the engine seized and the the big red pressure gauge came on . I dont understand what happened ? if its fuel is there no warning light ? If its not fuel what could it be since temperatures were well with the limits and i was careful with the RPM never exceeding 2800 for a brief period 2-3 mn and i was never under pressure since no enemy planes appeared . Can someone pls give me some input ,tks
CountZero Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) So if i get it right you took 50% fuel and you flew on continuous engine regime ? if yes you run out of fuel spit is low fuel capacity airplane. (fuel gauge in airplane will show you amount only when you fly for some time level, its not push to show like in real airplane in game you have to fly level and wait for it to show you. ) Last time i run tests you can fly around 80min with 100% on continuous mode. adler_1 Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) so there is no red light warning like in german planes which means you have about 20mn of flight time left at level ? i was not flying level i did go combat various times but nothing happened , no dogfight and for short periods during that 1hr total flight . So how do you know when its time to head back ? watch your clock ? Edited September 18, 2020 by adler_1
CountZero Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 With airplanes i usealy take note on how long they can fly with 10% of fuel, and how mutch in fuel gauge 10% is. So lets say i wont to start flying Spitfire 9s, and i didnt fly them long or its first time i plan to play them, i would start quick mission with 10% of fuel and set it on autopilot at max continuous regime for airplane. I would check fuel gauge when mission starts and see how mutch galons it shows (that way i know when i play in MP missions that when gauge shows that amount of galons im on 10%) and then i would speed up time and see how long game time it took for fuel to run out, and i would then know that when i see gauge shows for example 10galons i have that 8min to go back if i use continouos, or 5min on combat and so on... You can see fuel gauge, it will show 0, but if you fly level for few seconds it will move and show how mutch you have, no red warning light like on some airplanes. 1
adler_1 Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 understood , so if i fly with 50% fuel i have 40mn flight time .therefore i use the clock since there is no warning and i estimate the last 10% as return to base depending on distance and a margin incase i'm jumped and have to go full blast as often happens . The German fighters have 100 LT for 1 hr flight , a full tank usually is 200 lt placed in 2 100lt tanks . you get a white light when it starts using the second tank . I was flying only German and only now i started getting interested in my allied warehouse . Thanks support much appreciated .
41Sqn_Skipper Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Spitfire has 2 fuel tanks and there is a fuel gauge at the bottom right corner of the instrument panel. It shows only the content of the bottom fuel tank and only if flying straight for a couple of seconds. A very conservative approach is to fly with 100% fuel and return when top tank is empty = when the needle of the fuel gauge starts dropping. That gives you more than 1 hour flight time including some extended combat time at emergency power.
adler_1 Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 Therefore the flight autonomy is same as the the German fighters . So when the needle begins moving i take note of the time and give myself a 10% margin to get back which should be enough for 5-8 grids on our maps at cruising speed . You cannot dog fight efficiently or high tail it when in trouble with 100 % fuel . Many times when running away in my Dora i would out run P51's because i had less than 30 % fuel left . thanks for the useful comments
