Off_Winters Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Hi All, Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere. I have gone through all the settings I can find and have them set to the highest possible settings, but the shadows (trees especially) and grass effects are being drawn in a very small circle around my aircraft. I would like to have the effects come in at a much greater distance so I don't see the transition so plainly as I move across the map. I had a go at increasing the render distance in the summer.txt file that controls the grass, but did not see any appreciable increase in the radius of the render. (I upped it from 1 to 4 which in theory should have increased the circle from 50m to 200m) [grass] model="graphics\grass\ForestGrassB_50m_SU.mgm" distance=4 //Render distance in map pixels (1 pixel = 50 meters) size=50.0f //MGM grass quad side size, meters ColorOverlay=1 //Amount of ground color mix with grass color ForestMask=true //Draw grass within global forest map [end] is there a way to open up the effects render to larger diameter? regards Rob.
Remontti Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Did you try editing grass radius in startup.cfg? Setting it too high will bring your computer to its knees. For shadows I don't know other than putting them on ultra.
216th_Jordan Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) As Remontti said, you need to configure the grass_distance (in meters) setting in the startup.cfg (data folder). But there is also a "grass quality" setting in the ingame graphic settings that does the same but gives you 4 presets. Edited September 18, 2020 by 216th_Jordan
Off_Winters Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 Hi All, Thanks guys, the edit of the startup config did the trick. I set the grass to 600 and now I have nice smooth transition of the effects. oddly setting the grass to 600 has also changed the render rate/distance of the shadows as well, so both issues fixed. I tested in heavy activity from high and low and got a consistent 60 FPS which is were I have locked my target FPS. thanks again, regards Rob.
