How do I use AI commands effectively?

I'm playing the game for some time now exclusivlely in SP - and out of frustration I abandoned using AI commands a few years ago.

However AI has been constantly improved and maybe I just did it wrong - so here are my questions:

How can I

a) as a flight leader

- have my flight follow me into a suitable attack position inspite of enemy a/c in visible?

- have my wingman giving actual cover (as in keeping a little distance and only attacking a/c that attack either him or me)?

- give some kind of target priority (as in fighters over bombers or Artillery over AA)

- have my flight disengage sensibly (without becoming target practice) and regroup?

b) as a wingman

- ask for the position of the flightleader after having lost my flight during combat?

thanks!

AI seems to ignore most of my commands (if not all) all the time. What is even worse, even having the AI acting autonomously, they are terribly bad in air combat. At the end my AI mates are only good to distract other enemy AI planes. They are so incompetent that they are even unable to execute simple breaks even when pinged over and over by enemy planes at their dead six, which are also incopentent enough as to not being able to score a good bunch of solid hits in targets flying in straight line and not even reacting.  It would be good to have at least a check 6 command that automatically forces a friendly plane in front of you to break in any direction.
