You need to resave them due to the new haze options in the file. Looks like.

Congratulations team! a true milestone!

Attention for all mission makers and game server hosters.

Binary mission format .msnbin have been chaged and old binary missions now are obsolete. Please re-save your missions using .Mission files.

I'm getting the error when trying to open the .mission files in the editor. So unable to resave them through that. I presume this tool in the resaver folder is what I need to use instead then? Searching the forums now to find out hot to use MissionResaver.

It seems you need to go into the mission editor "tools>resave all missions in folder" then navigate to the folder. If there are a lot of mission file in that folder it will be working for a while.

Add-On...

I was not able to open some of my missions (which were running running) with the editor after the update.

I could solve that by using 'resave missions in folder'

Its seems to affect all missions where cloud setting is not '0'

Deci

Edit:

Only 1 line has to be added inside the .mission file...

...

  CloudConfig = "summer\01_Light_01\sky.ini";
  SeaState = 0;
  Turbulence = 0;
  TempPressLevel = 0;
  Temperature = 25;
  Pressure = 760;
  Haze = 0;
  WindLayers
  {

...

The 'Haze = 0;' is new and seems to be only needed sometimes

Ah thank you that's done the trick. Am not a proper mission maker so excuse the editor newb. Just use it to have a mission ready where I can take images for skins I make.

EDIT: ignore --- the "resave all missions in folder" command did the trick! Didn't know that even existed

I do have a couple of .msbin files that will not open in the editor.

Attached in case helpful, however I don't really need em; can rebuild pretty fast in these cases.

I have an old installation for server testing that hasn't been updated yet, I'll recover the mission files and upload them for you. Just be a few minutes and I'll send you a link.

You have to re-save them as per Han's comment earlier.

As RedKestral mentioned, you need to re-save your missions. You can re-save all of them at once. Do the following:

1. Open the mission editor (\bin\editor\STEditor.exe)

2. In the Tools menu, click Resave All Missions in Folder.

3. Navigate to the folder containing your missions (e.g., \data\Missions).

    You can choose a high-level folder and the editor will resave the missions in that folder and in all the lower-level folders.

4. Click OK.

THX? Works fine?

For anyone having trouble opening a .Mission file, make sure to delete (or rename) the associated .msnbin file. The mission editor looks at them both, but the file format for the .msnbin has changed. If you have just the .Mission file the editor will open it and you can then save it as normal.

Can't resave - gives me an error (error reading mission file) when attemting to resave the folder. That is the case for each mission I tried it with. My mate is reporting the same. Any solutions?

Can somebody try resaving that mission and let me know how it went?

JimTMs directions worked for me.

I realize the accepting that Jim can be correct on anything is surprising... but in this rare case, he is correct. ?

Do the following:

1. Check that that you have .mission files for the missions that you want to save.

    If you are resaving all missions in a folder, make sure that there is a .mission file for all of them.

2. Delete the associated .msnbin files for each mission that you want to save.

3. Resave the missions.

Still gives me the error. Can you download my zip, delete the msbins and give it a go yourself?

You have an apostrophe in the name of your plane in the " Khan*kov A" airfield. It's best to keep names simple (e.g., no punctuation).

That's amazing. Thank you.

Problem is, I still have dozen or so missions I need resaving. Can you walk me step by step how you done that? I'll see if I can spot the error in my own attempts.

For missions that cannot be resaved:

1. Get NotePad++ (free).

2. Open .mission file in NotePad++.

3. In the Search menu, choose Find, find apostrophe characters, and delete or replace them with something else that works.

    I don't know if apostrophes are OK in other parts of a .mission file so be careful if you find them in other places besides "Name =" items.

4. Save the .mission file, open it in the editor, and save it to generate a new .msnbin file.

My problem is that I cannot resave the mission (which means I also cannot open them).

Is the apostrophe or prefix really the cause here? They worked fine prior to the update, and in the fixed mission you sent back there's still a * in the Olhovka AF group.

Beside editing out symbols, what else have you done? Have you resaved it using the resave tool in the editor? How did that work step by step?

Hmmm, I'm not sure why it worked before the update. All I did was extract your mission, remove the apostrophe in NotePad++ and saved it. The mission then opened fine in the editor, where I could resave it to generate the new .msnbin file. If you do the same and still have issues then there's something else going on.

I recommended simple names as a general rule to stay out of trouble. I haven't tested punctuation other than apostrophe.

I downloaded the update, but, as always, I have a big problem: all the missions (built by me) do not be loaded.
It is necessary to operate in the ME with the "Resave all Mission in the folder" and this is a very slow operation!
For a folder, I don't know ..., with 30-40 missions to resave, an hour has already passed and the operation is still far from the end ...
This is very, very annoying.
It is a shame that no solution to this problem can be found!

Note that I have a rather fast PC and in any case I will inform you about the exact number of files and the time taken to save them ...

Now, after 1h 10m, I go out for shopping, i leave the computer to work.
Hoping that, in the meantime, a blackout will not come ... so I lose everything!

FINAL REPORT

The missions in the folder were a little more (about 200), but the final time was 2h 25m ...
It is better to do this at night or while one does not have to use IL-2 Sturmovik ...

I tried to do as directed, even tried to remove everything that can corrupt the name ("!", "é", etc.).

I still have some error to load the mission. Not all missions, but only some. As I designed some very large and complex missions for a campaign, I'm really disapointed and puzzled on hox to fix that things...?

Salutations,

Please attempt updating ones missions using the methods presented. If a mission or missions cannot be updated... hold a respectful service for them and tearfully say goodbye. ☹️

I have personally been able to successfully update ALL of my missions after this particular update but I have lost a couple in the past due to updates. I've come to accept the situation and It's actually not that important to me now. It is a slightly annoying price we have to pay for a simulation that is continually being improved by the developers through regular updates.

The only thing I can think of is:

  1. Close the editor and BoX and delete mtreecache.eng in the /data folder.
  2. Make sure you have a .mission file and then delete the .msnbin file.
  3. Open the mission in the editor.

After updating to v4.501 non of the custom single missions and custom campaigns for tank crew work anymore. When I click on them they all say "Mission description is loading" and no matter how long I leave it the mission description never loads and when trying to start a mission it just boots me back to the mission selection screen. This is a pretty big deal for tank crew as 80% of the content is user created missions and campaigns.

Whoops my bad, there is already a thread about this with instructions on how to fix the issue:

I found only a few that weren't re savable, most quite old like veteranen66 and coconut from early IL2 days. Pity, some were nice ones.

Most campaigns i lost the progress savings, probably due to my own messing around trying to figure out how to do the proper updating,

as BlackSix explained in a PM. Well i just started replaying his Icering campaign, and realized once again how well it's made.

I think the best way is reinstalling the 4.501 game fresh (save all your mission and campaign stuff and the input data folders first)

What i did is create a separate mission TEMP folder in the new installation, copied all the old the saved mission data into it.

Then ran the ME re save routine there. Each time it crashes with some old mission, i deleted that, and moved the OK ones by checking the time-data.

Latter OK ones i moved to my working mission folder. Then re ran the ME re saving. About a days work if you have a lot of missions and campaigns.

You should do the folder campaigns too on your (user) campaigns ...

i still did not figure out were my campaign progress savings went, should be in data\surf, but i only found one file there for some reason.

Jim  (hats off boys once again! ) you're my man, i notified BlackSix on this apostrophe and re-saving business in a PM, he might contact you?  ...

In my case of an absolute non re loadable mission the apostrophe was in the in the naming of a mediafile, took it out and Eureka!

ErrorSSSS found!!!

It was a mess due to accentuation ("é", "ê", etc.) and some "!" left behind in the *.mission file.

But sincerely, what a huge pain in the (br)ass to have to search for all these little things when there was no problem before with it...
