My last gpu died and i need some stopgap, i can get one used at 110 usd.

I would mostly use it for il2 / dcs and the next option i had in mind is a 5700 xt for 400 usd but the news of the next generation of gpus changed my mind.. i think its best to buy a good gpu of the next generation in 1+ year when prices go down a bit and need a stopgap until then..

Would you buy a "cheap" 580 4gb or would you wait some months (6+) and save your money for a really good gpu?

i plan to run it at 1080 (1440 if i can but i doubt it) and can compromise graphic quality for a good experience

ps, i have a 4yo system that may bottleneck a really good gpu so idk if its worth it to go overboard with the gpu since my current rig may not take advantage of it

Current rig

i7 7700

16 gb ram 2400

I don't know your personal financial situation and I can't predict the future prices of graphics cards. However, I think that the 4 GB RX 580 would perform well right now.

One of my older systems has a GTX 980, which is usually fairly similar in terms of performance. Great Battles still runs almost perfectly at 1080p with high settings. 1440p is also feasible but requires some reduced settings.

I have and use an old r9 280x with 3gb of memory. Its got some minor issues (rarely some spurious geometry artifacts) but otherwise works great.

You can see my graphics setting down below, I use it with a 60Hz monitor and vsync. I'd say you shouldn't have any problem.
