Spook109 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 I get this on random missions built using the quick editor. All the missions I've built have been US v Japan on PTO maps and using no Russian assets. Anyone familiar with this error?
FTC_Snafu26 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Yes I've seen it before, and if I remember correctly this can happen if you run a stock game and load modded content.
352nd_Wheels Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 (edited) Storebror at SAS had this to say on the subject. https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,17194.msg186792.html#msg186792 Quote Okay, let's split the answer: Why does setting the two TexCompress Flags in conf.ini solve the famous Paratroopers mission load error issue? This error ("Mission loading failed: Mesh3do/humans/Paratroopers/Russia/mono.sim not created") occurs while textures are loaded into your graphics card's memory. When the size of these textures exceeds the memory limits of your graphics card, mission loading stops with this error message. Why is it always the Paratroopers causing this error? It isn't. Forget about the error message contents, it's plain bull****. So what exactly do these parameters do? They let your system compress the textures with a so called "S3TC" texture compression algorithm, which gives a very good performance and much reduced texture size with just a slightly loss of texture quality (regarding quality however the implementation of S3TC, depending on your graphics driver, might cause slightly frayed texture edges). Why do I need to set two parameters for just one thing? Good question. Maybe just to confuse the russians Joking aside, one parameter would logically do, but things are like they are, don't waste time worrying about it. What happens if I set just one of the two parameters? Simply said, it just won't do the trick. You need to set both in order to get the texture compression to work correctly. Okay, got it. But now I forgot the right flag parameter's names and settings... No problem, here you go: In your IL-2 game folder you'll find a file "conf.ini". Open this in notepad (or your favourite text editor) and set these two parameters in the section [Render_OpenGL] accordingly: TexCompress=2 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 Hope that helps... Spook109 Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 Thank you - very helpful. Will give it a try and report back.
FA_Bong Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 After I modded everything up to 4.1 I'm now getting this paratrooper error. I have tried all the aforementioned config entries it just persists. I even tried reverting to a vanilla config that works in a vanilla install but no joy. Really scratching my head, I had no problem til I used the Il-2 selector to see if it changed eras now I can't even get it to work stock. ?
Spook109 Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 (edited) I uninstalled all copies of 1946 and reinstalled from steam, backdated to 4.1x, and confirmed it worked. Once confirmed, I made two copies and used those to install BAT and SAS. All three installs are working fine now. Edited January 6, 2021 by I_Shoot_Birds Clarification 1
