Voidhunger Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 I just received hit from the SU122 and in slow motion I was pleasantly surprised that the actual round has a physic modeled to some extent! The HE round struck me into the turret side, ricocheted to the side, slightly turning, and exploded at the end of the turret and jamming the turret ! It was cool and in motion its better then in the pictures. While its really cool feature I have a question if its actually possible for HE round to slide off the armor? Maybe at extreme angles only?
SCG_judgedeath3 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Its possible but not super common: Like you say it all depends on the angle and if the shell is tumbling or not, if the shell hits the armour at an angle that makes most of the impact be absorbed by the shells side instead of front: its possible. But if the shells tip hit the armour besides extreme angle then it will explode. 1
LachenKrieg Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 My understanding is that the ballistics for all guns in this SIM are modeled accurately. I especially like your second shot showing the shell from behind just before impact. Depending how far away the SU122 was, the shell that struck you probably had a velocity somewhere around 300 m/s. I wonder if what we aren't seeing is the effect of a shell traveling at 300 m/s against the 30FPS (NTSC), or 25FPS (PAL) of the replayed video. The energy of the blast should naturally follow the direction the shell was traveling in. Because the shot glanced off of your turret, are we seeing its explosive energy stretch out in the direction of travel?
