TCW_Welsh78 Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 Alienware I have an Alienware m17 R2 Specs ProcessorIntel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz Video CardNVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Video Card #2Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 RAM16 GB Operating SystemWindows 10 I know a desktop would be faster etc but I need this laptop to use for gaming when I'm away. However, when I am home next I have ordered an LG 32 UltraGear Quad HD 2560 x 1440p - 144hz monitor. My question is, would I be able to hook up my laptop to the above monitor and have a decent gaming experience with decent fps on high graphical settings playing this game. Normally I play VR using this laptop but VR in my opinion needs a few more years to develop graphically.

chiliwili69 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Definitely not at 144MHz. In the remagen test spreadsheet you can see a test using a 2060S giving 112fps with 1080p.(2Million pixels) So for your 2K monitor (3.6 pixels) you would be around 60Hz. If your monitor can operate at 60Hz you will be fine. Regarding your CPU it can reach 4.5GHz with turbo (if not throtling due to high temp), so for monitor it would be enough. Let us know how it goes.

So excuse my ignorance and thank you for the reply, are you saying my laptop wouldn't be able to run IL2 on a 2k monitor at all, or would it run but the performance would be significantly reduced? I am planning on running it on the monitor as the only screen with a HDMI cable. Also, this isn't running it through the monitor then using VR, it will be disregarding the VR and going back to flat screen - not sure I made myself clear in the first post ? Looking at the manufacturers notes the Frequency ranges are - Horizontal 30 - 230 kHz - Vertical 50 - 144 Hz. I know naff all about things like this but I'm guessing it will run at 60Hz? Soon find out in 3 weeks ? Edited September 10, 2020 by 334th_WelshWarrior
chiliwili69 Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 If you can set the frequency of the monitor to run at 60Hz then the game will run OK in your laptop at relatively good settings of the game (not the highest but quite ok). And allow good ventilation for the laptop.
