Mm1ut1 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 I will be shortly trying to move my steam file holder from my C drive (it’s nearly full) to my E drive. My IL-2 game is a combination of Games and collector planes I bought from Steam and directly from the IL-2 site. If I manage to screw it up can I download everything I bought from both sites for free or will I have to pay for everything again? I saw the process for moving the account on YouTube and it seems pretty simple but there always seems to be a chance something will go wrong.
DD_Arthur Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Don't worry, even if it goes wrong you will be able to re-download. There will be no extra charge!

Hi mate, as DD_Arthur already said, you will be always allowed to download your purchased game and other content, if you really screw your move. But before you do this, maybe you want to copy/save your "input" folder located in your game's data folder. This folder stores all your key bindings and joystick setup. And depending on how many personal / individual skins you already downloaded, you might also save a copy of your "graphics/skins" folder. Finally while we're at it - make a copy of your "campaigns" folder, especially if your are SP pilot and you have some of the free campaigns installed in your game. That's about it. Cheerio
[CPT]Crunch Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 One slick trick, start a fresh install, cut it, than move all your files, whalla, all your pathways have already been created and your ready to roll.
Zippy-do-dar Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Here are the steam instructions https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 I've moved my steam folder many times over the years without problems
Zeev Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 (edited) I game for the past 30 decades, and I remember that there was only once a limitation on downloading digital products and it was from Electronic Arts (EA) in the early 2000's. There is no download limitations here (its just a launcher) and in Steam, and thanks god there is no DRM activation key limitation as with DCS modules (EA left the early 2000's but DCS are still there). So to sum it up: You can freely move your game folder from C:\ partition to another one. Then go to Steam software and tell it you want to create new library on the new partition and it will scan all the games there. Since the game is launched through Steam, I think this will be enough. 2 hours ago, [CPT]Crunch said: One slick trick, start a fresh install, cut it, than move all your files, whalla, all your pathways have already been created and your ready to roll. If I remember correctly, steam is able to locate game folder and everything that is needed for the game by itself, as long as this game folder is under the "Game Library" on the new partition. AEthelraedUnraed Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Or just move everything to a random location on your E: drive and make Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad a symlink to the new location. Saves you the hassle of having to re-download everything.
Mm1ut1 Posted September 7, 2020 Author Posted September 7, 2020 I followed the instructions from a Steam YouTube. Looks like everything worked but I still have a steam library on my C drive. Ok to delete it?
AEthelraedUnraed Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) I obviously don't know what they say in "a Steam YouTube" or its trustworthiness, but after you moved everything correctly, you should be able to delete any leftover files from your C drive. If for some reason Steam doesn't work as intended, just restore the files from your trash bin or, worst case, re-download your games. Edited September 8, 2020 by AEthelraedUnraed
