hal_900 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I'm on Steam if it matters, but recently since getting the Kuban DLC I get a stutter in game. I'm running overlays with MSI Afterburner and RTSS to get FPS count, but even without them I get the same issue. I'll be player either single or multiplayer and randomly I'll get it slowing slightly for a split second (MSI afterburner shows a 5fps drop at this point) and a buzzing noise, game will then be fine, then 5fps drop and buzzing noise. It'll do this multiple times at random then sometimes its constant. - again even without the overlays it still does it I dont think its a specs thing: Ryzen 3600 16GB RAM 3200mhz 256GB PCIe SSD GTX 1660 super I've updated all my drivers and its still doing it, doesnt happen in other games. CPU is running less than 10% in this game, GPU about 50 - 75%. I've set full power mode in Nvidia control panel etc I've revalidated files in Steam and it did mention 3 files will be reaquired - but its still doing it. Any ideas?
THERION Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Hi, not sure about buzzing noise in conjunction with stutter, but maybe it might be an overclocking issue? What are your current game's graphic settings? What are your current Nividia control panel settings? Cheerio
hal_900 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Not running any overclock, CPU is on 'default' although it speeds up / down on its own. Graphics settings havent been changed in game - again it was totally fine before Kuban DLC. fxaa X4 fps target 80 (75hz monitor) NOT fullscreen sharpen on 4k textures on vsync on 2560x1080 (ultrawide) everything else is medium/normal clouds high horizon 150km landscape blurred No SSAO/HDR gamma 0.8 All my nvidia settings are default, I've tried changing some without it helping such as adaptive vsync and powermode 'full' etc I'm going to roll back the Nvidia drivers to an older version and see if that helps. Otherwise I guess I'll try moving to another SSD instead of my C drive pcie last straw would be to reinstall game I guess

The game stutters and the sound sometimes hiccups or buzzes. You may be noticing it on Kuban because the map is much more intensive on the GPU and memory - do you also notice it on Battle of Stalingrad and Moscow maps? Getting new DLC doesn't change the game, since you already have all the game bits installed and buying DLC just unlocks the content. By coincidence did an update happen around the same time as purchasing BoK? Since upgrading to 1660 Super I don't notice it anymore. I think the stutters mostly have to do with heavy-duty texture loading, so VRAM is important. When monitoring I still see big frametime spikes for the GPU indicating periodic intense loading. Why this is the case, I don't know, but it is much improved since a patch some time ago. My current rig is close to yours, but you have the superior processor and a SSD: GTX 1660 Super, i5-750, 16GB of RAM at 3200 mHz (but throttled by motherboard to 2133. I run the game in 1440p - (ultrawide 1080p is about halfway between normal 1080p and 1440p in terms of strain on the GPU.) I think it may just be that some of your settings are overstraining the card on the newer maps. Set your processor in windows power settings to 'prefer maximum performance'. Its probably nothing to do with that but it helps a little bit. Same with Nvidia drivers - Keep your GPU powermode setting to full. Some things to try in the game settings, based on what works for me with same card and 1440p res: -Turn 4K textures off. Some people seem to get stutters with it on, others get it with it off. I have left it off and find I get a little bit smoother experience so worth a shot. -Set horizon draw distance to 100 km. 150km is pretty far and because the detailed draw distance is limited by your preset settings it doesn't make all that big of a difference and might net you more performance. -try setting the frame limiter to 60FPS rather than 80FPS. If you are using Vsync, framerate drops below the framerate limit can cause stutters. Since your monitor is only at 75hz, and the game doesn't have a setting for 75 hz (an oversight IMO), any framerate is technically below this and might give you worse stutters if your GPU can't hit 75 exactly. Plus 60 FPS is less intensive on the GPU. I don't notice much difference between 60 and 75 but some people do, so it is a compromise.
hal_900 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 I may try lowering the settings a bit because when the game gets really intense sometimes I still get large FPS drops. But its not on the Kuban map, seems to be any map even single player. I think it may be due to my soundcard drivers / hardware (hope its not hardware) - found some stuff online for similar issues and disabling the nvidia sound drivers / adapter (dont use them) and removing my headset mic cable seem to have stopped the constant buzzing and stutter. But then I also rolled back the nvidia drivers so maybe is that. I'll try some more testing and lower the settings as suggested ? 1

You can also try turning off the interface noises (the beeps and such when people are talking in MP, or other such noises) some people noted that that had a performance impact.
hal_900 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Single player career, still doing it. Swapped my headset out for a USB one, still doing it - so its not the onboard soundcard. I think its the Xbox / gamepass app as I got FS2020 recently to try out as well. (guess this was around the time i got Kuban but thinking about it and as others have said that would already be part of the game install etc) I've closed everything else I can and at the xbox app, it seems to have sorted it....I hope. ..... Its still doing it, I'm still getting fps drops as well which doesnt make sense as my hardware is not being used, CPU is 10-15% and GPU never more than 75%. ☹️ Edited September 4, 2020 by hal_900
hal_900 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 I've switched to LAN instead of wifi and just played a game, it was fine with no stuttering....that doesnt explain the issues in simgle player though. (still with all other game things closed such as xbox, epic etc etc)

No idea why. Origin is particularly brutal for stutter.
hal_900 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 I think thats sorted it, I've disabled all of them from startup - just played online for an hour or so and no weird stutter / audio problems. Hope its fixed now ? 1
