Pre-order Hurricane Mk2 Russian 87 Octane or British 100 octane

I ask because the British 100 octane Kittyhawk in CloD Desert Wings performs WAY better than the 87 octane version in GB.

As far as I know, several versions of the Hurricane we are getting weren't used in ETA so I think (and am not sure) that we might get the 100 octane version.

At least i hope so.

Have a nice day.

I'd say it's unlikely we get brit gas, none of the other lend lease planes seem to have western AvGas, though the P-40 seems to be the only big loser.

I will answer here because it's a bit off topic for the Battle of Normandy release thread.

In an interview with the Team Fusion guys, the reason for differences in the performance of the Kittyhawk between the 2 games was the difference in octane fuel used. They claimed the P40 on the Eastern Front used 87 octane fuel, whereas in N. Africa, 100 octane fue was used.

Yes, I read his post, but what he wrote isn't correct. The P-40 in Battle of Moscow is modelled with Lend Lease 100 octane fuel, the P-40 in Tobruk has further engine settings that were cleared later on, however the earlier settings that we have in BoX P-40 are also for 100 octane fuel. If you read the training manual of the P-40E you will find that it has a warning that without 100 octane fuel, 91 octane could be used but with much more restrictive engine regimes than the ones we have in game.

The Spitfire Mk V we have in Kuban has the same engine settings than the Spit Mk V late and trop in Tobruk (+16 boost) so it also shows 100 octane fuel was modelled for the Lend Lease planes.

Besides, the Soviets had 95 octane fuel that they made on their own and that's what they used in their higher performance engines such as the Klimovs and ASh-82 for example. The lower octane fuels were used in earlier less powerful engines such as the ones in the I-15, I-16, etc.

So I would expect the upcoming Hurricane Mk II to also be modelled with lend lease 100 octane fuel.

And with this line of thought, I'd assume the Hurri will have even poorer performance than the P40 we have in game.

Schucks!  I'll wait for the reviews after it comes out instead of pre-ordering.

The Hurri performance between Tobruk and GB should be the same, the P-40 in Tobruk has higher performance because it can make use of higher engine settings, though looks like it is a bit too slow at these high power settings for what I could tell.

The Hurri performance will be dictated by the power setting they implement, if it ends up getting +14/+16 boost the speed should be similar to that of the P-40E at 42" at sea level, the time limit would be 5 min.  This for the machine gun only variant, if you equip the cannons it would be a bit slower with the increased drag.

As altitude progreses the P-40 would surpass it in speed.
