Talisman Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) My startup cfg file has suddenly disappeared. Is there a way to repair IL-2 GB and get the file back? I purchased IL-2 GB direct from the team web site, not steam. Game seems to run ok, but I can't change my graphics now because I had the missing file set to read only. Any ideas would be gratefully received. If no joy then I suppose I will have to deleted the game and download a fresh version. Edited September 2, 2020 by 56RAF_Talisman

Have the settings changed back to default after going missing or are they the same? Could it be that Windows has just hidden the file from you in that directory?

My in-game graphics settings are the same as I set them before, they have not changed back to default. How to find a Windows hidden file? Could it be that I have blocked application messages or something?
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Open the Start menu Type file explorer options into Start. Click File Explorer Options. Click the View tab. Click the Show hidden files, folders, and drives circle. Click Apply, then click OK. 1

Yes, I did that and found that it was already activated to show hidden files as you say. Startup cfg file still not showing though. I have turned my PC off and on again but still no joy, lol.

If it didn't exist I believe the game reverts to default and creates a new config file with those settings. And if it was moved the game would not be able to find it.
Talisman Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) OK, if I go to the data folder and open it and then type in the additional '\startup.cfg' and then hit the enter search key it opens the file, which is great! But it still remains hidden from view and is not listed along with all the other files under the data folder, like it used to be. This is very strange! At least I have a way of opening it now without seeing it on the list. Edited September 2, 2020 by 56RAF_Talisman
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 I have no idea how what you describe could happen but here is a wacky idea. Open the file and save a copy with a different name. See if you can see this new copy. If you can see the copy, open it and save it back in the original name. This might replace the old one with a visible version. Alternatively, after making a copy, use DOS to navigate to the directory and delete the invisible file by name ie 'del startup.cfg' then rename your copy to startup.cfg (either in DOS or back in Windows.)
