jonfitt Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Hello, I have not played IL-2 in many years. I have the original IL-2, IL-2 1946, and IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. I recently got a VR headset and thought I'd see if it was possible to play any of them in VR. I see from forum posts that those versions do not have a VR build. But my question is: I have no idea what the version/purchasing model is nowadays. What do I need to buy to play some version of IL-2 in VR?
Thad Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Salutations, To best of my knowledge any game module purchased on this website can be played in VR. 1
jonfitt Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Thanks! In Steam it shows that IL-2 Stalingrad is the main game, and the other battles and Flying Circus are "DLC" for it. Is that just the weird way Steam is organized or is the Stalingrad battle figuratively the "main" one? Also, I might wait for a sale. Another $50 for my 4th version of IL-2! ?
Thad Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Sorry, I can't say for certain. I don't play IL2 through Steam. But buying the Stalingrad module first may be required by Steam. 1
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Hi jonfitt, just want to make sure you don't purchase what you don't want. There are currently two Il-2 games and they are not interchangeable. There is the Il-2 Great Battle series (Battles of Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban, Bodenplatte, upcoming Normandy, Flying Circus and Tank Crew). These are marked in red in the site's store and all work within the same ecosystem and can be played standalone. The Great battle series has VR. Then there is the Il-2 Dover series, with Cliffs of Dover Blitz (overhaul of the original Cliffs of Dover) and Desert Wings Tobruk (expansion/DLC for Blitz and needs the base game). If you have the original Cliffs of Dover, Blitz gets added to your Steam library automatically, so no need to buy Blitz again. Cliffs does not have VR yet. It is planned for the beginning of 2021 if sales go well with the expansion. You can buy the games and modules here or directly on Steam. If you buy it here all the money goes to the devs. If you want to have BoS (Great Battle series) on Steam you need to buy Stalingrad there to be able to add the rest. 1 3
