konate Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Playing the "Desert Rats" campaign and in each I end up with 8 bombs, 4 under each wing, on my Hurricane and sometimes I'd like to use them; preferably individually. Thus far, they only drop all at once. I've tried mapping "Next Bomb Distributor Mode" and "Increase/Decrease Bomb Distributor Salvo Quantity" (using JoyToKey) to no effect. Help?
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Thank you for that question. On board the 109 I only drop bombs one by one under my fuselage. On board the Hurricane IIc I drop both bombs simultaneously under my wings. Does the key mapping allow choosing the dropping mode, simultaneous or one by one? is it possible to choose? Or is this constraint related to historical fact?

dazako Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Other clever people will have definitive answers but I'm pretty sure there was no option to drop fighter-bombs individually. Unlike in our fun simulated world fighter bombing was done in a single pass on target and then run away from all manner of ground fire. The less time spent on target the better as even 1 small caliber bullet hole in the coolant system is all it takes to bring down an aircraft. Daz

Historically aircraft, even fighters carrying bombs, were able to fly a straight line and drop different bombs over different targets.
Charlo-VRde Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I seem to recall that last night I dropped my 2 bombs individually, one on each pass, from my P-38, destroying a factory building on one pass and an oil tank on the other

Likely so as proper fighter-bomber aircraft expanded the roll, but initially with the Hurricane for eg it was a simple mod. I'm not sure what 1940-41 options were. Daz
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I thank you for your responses, guys, but I think this needs further investigations.

Historically aircraft, even fighters carrying bombs, were able to fly a straight line and drop different bombs over different targets. Depends, a Bf 109 B have that "bomb control panel", but in some Spitfire Mk pilot have just a ring at end of a cable for drop bombs, so no option for drop one by one. Hurricane II B Pilot Notes say that are four switches on a panel on right side of cockpit, two for set fuses and two (probable) for arm bombs. Hurricane I FB have a strange bombs operation, he carry 8 small bombs, click on the switch (right side of panel) drop 4 bombs of right wing - and the switch animation goes down, then click in the switch again drop the four of left wing, but animation don't match (a common problem in CloD "bombers" switches animations). Their bombs are small, but is not good idea drop bombs only on one side of wings, as this result in an asymmetrical load. "It's CloD" peculiarities. Edited September 1, 2020 by Sokol1
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Thank you Sokol1, that's a more precise response. In any case, my reading is that the game doesn't allow to choose the bombing mode (1by1/simultaneous). Correct?
Sokol1 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Quote on board the 109 I only drop bombs one by one under my fuselage. Again, depends on plane.? In Bf 109 E4-B with 4xSC50 you can select "Single" and "Salvo", dropping one by one or the four at once. With SC250, well don't matter, you carry only one bomb. BTW - Bf 109 require "arm bombs" before release. Their "Bombe..something" control panel is unfinished and not interactive, and don't help much, just lamps goes on when you select bombs armed (by press key or button). In Bf 110 B the "Bomber..." is a little better animated/interactive, allow click for select single or salvo and for arm bombs... In Stuka the same "Bomber..." have one detail more, allow select the bomb rack... But in any plane the operation fall short of RL operation. Edited September 1, 2020 by Sokol1 2
343KKT_Kintaro Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Cool, I'll study all of this. Thank you Sokol1. Edited September 1, 2020 by 343KKT_Kintaro Cool, not coll
Sokol1 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) You need this commands (in Aircraft) for deal with bombs. To cut the keys assignments, use only the "Next/Increase". . And figure what attack plane, need one, two or all of this commands. ? In line bombs racks in fighters is treated as "'bomb bay". Edited September 3, 2020 by Sokol1
