Dufalator Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Hello, Can you tell me which game engine goes for which simulator? I think that the "COLD" Engine is only relevant for the earlier titles, and the "Digial nature" Engine is for later , current and future. Does anybody know wha the cut off is? At what point in the simulation did they make the switch? For example, Can I fly cliffs of Dover even though I have IL-2 BOS installed? I ask because, I have a lot of older sims sitting around. Thank you
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 31, 2020 1CGS Posted August 31, 2020 Cliffs of Dover is entirely separate from Stalingrad.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) CloD engine was the successor of old Il-2 1946 (which had its own engine and was used in parts for the development of CloD‘s engine). It was released in 2011. Digital Nature is the engine of Rose of Flight and is actually older than the Cliffs Engine. But it served as the base for the BoS series and has been thoroughly updated through the years and became the Digital Warfare engine at some point, which is what you have in all BoX games now (Battles of Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban, Bodenplatte and upcoming Normandy). So technically, BoS has a newer engine. I have CloD + Tobruk DLC and all of BoS and play both games. You can play all the titles you own, sure. But as LukeFF said, CloD and BoS are completely separate games so you need to have both in order to play both. You can watch this interview from earlier today (also posted in the Cliffs section on this forum) if you want details about what happened to Cliffs (and a little bit of how BoS came along, although there are some interviews with Jason from BoS too which are better for that; linked part 1 of one below): Spoiler Edited August 31, 2020 by J-HAT
