Trouble with Multiplayer

Currently attempting to host a server to run dogfights and coops with a friend. I downloaded a variety of premade missions and also went ahead and got "Easy Mission Generator" and went ahead and made some more missions in that.

 

Every time we attempt to do any kind of mission (coop or dogfight) we never are able to see each other in game. Just to be clear: Both of us have all the needed ports open. He is able to join my session and we are able to select our planes and load in. However, at this point when we select the airfield to load in on - we seem to be in two "instances". We never see each other. As the host I'll see all the AI planes and an empty spot where he "should" be loading in. On his screen he is at the same airfield alone. He also does not see his own plane on the map.

 

We've tried both hosting and the end result is the same.
