OMG, including a love story. :(

Just like Battle of Britain, Dark Blue World, Enemy at the Gates.

Hopefully not that much time got wasted on luvvvv.

Something else.

Did German flamethrowers already have this kind of face protection during WWII?

Haven't seen it before.

Or is it a protection for the stuntman and they forgot to postprocess it (or whatever it is called in moviemaking)?

Just curious...

I had the impression that it is going to be a ww2 '300', just not as good as the 'original'

Well, it must be taken "as is"

No need to say it is somewhere between 300 and spartacus, fun , spectacular, and not a historycal document at all.

just tons of action and eye-candy

I will be prepared, and I already am drooling about the blu-ray

I have to hope that is just the trailer extracting all the shiny bits and stringing them together, and that it isn't really as it appears i.e. halfway between utter tosh and a Discover Channel 'co-production' (i.e. slightly more upmarket tosh).

The teddy-bear-pulled-from-the-rubble was final (stuffed) straw...pure pastiche.

All we need is a wide-eyed girl mouthing the word 'daddy' against a window lashed with rain and it's pretty much there.

Sorry, this hit all the wrong buttons for me....it has to be better than the trailer.

Never saw any Germans falling down dead from starvation in the trailer.

Jeez guys, it's intended as entertainment, not a documentary. The setting will mainly be a backdrop. Artistic licence, anyone?

No need to worry on that front FlatSpinMan, looks like there will be plenty... :)

Anyhow, as with anything, I guess we'll have to wait for release to make any sort of real judgement. Trailers tend to be schmaltz and bang.

Whether this movie turns out good or bad is anyone's guess at this point. The one thing I am sure of is after many years of reading flight sim "critics" movie reviews, most wouldn't know a good film if it bit them in the butt.

I think though that too many films use the 'Love Story' anchor rather than just the bonding of friendship in battle?

Pearl harbor - boring love story with war film built around it (sort of)

Redtails - Awful love story with war film built around it (sort of)

Private Ryan - No love story - awesome film!

Just a couple of recent examples?

Traditionally, studios see war films as a male thing...the love story, or backstory, or whatever, is used for what the suits call 'cross-over' appeal - i.e. to get the women in, or at least couples. Not always - and of course any serious film maker takes no notice of this whatsover - but studios tend to work to this logic. You know, focus, groups, demographics...all that stuff.

The more clout a director or producer has (or, if there is good independent funding, or an independent studio and distribution) the more this approach can be diluted.

I have no axe to grind on it - good subject for a film - but I think the trailer is awful. Then again, trailers often just dont work for some films, and the lowest common denominator approach is taken. As here. Nothing 'film review' about this. Just a truism for trailers.

Meh, there are already multiple films on this one.  It's no different than another movie about D-Day or Pearl Harbor.

I don't mind the love story so much I'm sure it happened and probably more than we think.  But did the Germans have Tiger tanks in November 1942?  I don't think so and that is the sort of stuff that gets under my skin.  Why not model MKIV tanks?

German Tiger tank than it resembles the russian T-80  Or it seems to me?

The tanks are Panzer IV's, not Tigers. Or rather ment to look like Panzer IV's at least.

Redtails was just a horrible movie.. I don't think I have ever been expecting so much in a film and got let down to that degree..  The script was horrible.. The titling was amateurish.. the soundtrack was so corny.. and some of the acting was so bad and cliche it was almost comical.. but that sad kind of comedy when  you know the film maker was trying to be serious. The best part was seeing the men and the planes in action.. having it on film.. but otherwise it was a bad film.. PH was OK but the love story got a bit over the top .. but bear in mind that there were several aspects of the love story angle going on there.. SPR had a love story.. it was the love of those soldiers for each other.. We Were Soldiers is IMO one of the finest war films ever made.. It had a love story too.. sort of.. but I know what you mean.. the sappy predictable kind of love story..

Personally I like the low story in Dark Blue World. It serves to underscore the theme of the film rather than distract from it.

War movies need to be made by europeans...

The best war movies of recent years are Der Untergang, Bresteskaya Krepost and Katyn...
