IL2 joystic - throttle - rudder controls - how to set up?

I've never use IL2 flight sims  -  DCS  X plane and ROF.

Nowhere can I find where to setup controllers in IL-2  other than a simple choice between mouse and joystick.   It can't be this hard.   tried right clicking during a quick mission,  I'm stumped.

 

I use Hotus Warthog  ( joystick and throttle ) and I use Sytek Peddles.  ( plus track IR..  that does work )  and my joystick works since I selected joystick vs mouse.

 

Seems there would be more to it than this?

From the main menu click settings, then key mapping.
