widget Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Has anyone noticed that only the P-39L seems to have proper animation of joystick movement when viewed from the outside? Other common aircraft (haven't checked every single type) don't appear to model joystick movements in external views. Is there a reason why the P-39 is the only one? 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Not trying to be a jerk, or to troll you, but in the great scheme of things in the sim, is this even remotely important? I mean, when I am viewing another aircraft it's either a wingman beside me, a contact at range, or an enemy in my gun sight. The most I will ever see is the pilot's head. I certainly will never see their stick moving in the cockpit. ? 2
widget Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 No, I was just wondering. Did my post imply any complaint or are you just reading something that isn't present. Not trying to be a jerk or to troll you either. 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Ah, sorry, I guess I read it as a request or a complaint, rather than an observation. One thing that is cool is that at night, cockpit illumination is visible from external views.

Hi I think the P-39 is the only fighter in IL-2 with this external animation, but the bombers like the A-20, Pe-2, Ju-52 and He-111 have this too. The reason they did this? I dont have the answer, but they probably had some extra time a while ago and tested what these animations would be like.
widget Posted August 26, 2020 Author Posted August 26, 2020 BlitzPig_EL: All good. It's the little details like cockpit lighting being visible externally or animations that make the sim just a joy to watch. You may recall in IL2 1946, the pilot's head moves to face whatever they're looking at. Again, it's just fun to watch. But one detail is less common in real life compared to the sim. Water condensate on the windscreen whenever you fly through clouds doesn't happen often unless the ambient temp is close to dew point. I never see the sort of water condensate depicted in IL2 when flying through fair weather clouds. Lemsip: Thanks for mentioning the heavies have the animations to watch. I had only checked the fighters. 1
Soilworker Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 On the topic, has anyone else noticed that since a few patches/updates ago (I forget when at this point) the joystick animation inside the cockpit has become jerky? As in, if you keep it still for a second then move the real stick the animated stick stays put for (less than) a second and then jumps to where it should be. (As if they decided the animations needed hysteresis and got Logitech to program it - G940 owners [should] know what I'm talking about. ?)
Guest deleted@134347 Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 when flying P39 in VR I can stand up from my seat and walk to the side, almost on to the wing, while looking at the cockpit and suddenly, the pilot's body appears in the cockpit, which is the coolest effect I've seen in Il2.

Never noticed that - maybe it is indeed connected to your HW?

Hysteresis in the G940 is an annoyance I remember now that you mention it. It was a good system when it worked. Mine has been gathering dust in the storage room ever since it decided to stop working quite a few years ago. I've searched unsuccessfully on the web, looking for someone who has figured out why the joystick side died and how to fix it. If you can point me to something you ma have come across, please let me know! 7 hours ago, Didney_World said: when flying P39 in VR I can stand up from my seat and walk to the side, almost on to the wing, while looking at the cockpit and suddenly, the pilot's body appears in the cockpit, which is the coolest effect I've seen in Il2. I'll have to try the same thing when my HMD arrives sometime. Sounds interesting!

I would replace it but there just aren't any viable force feedback options out there. (Plus I spent ages building an extension and brake lever for it.) 11 hours ago, 216th_Jordan said: Never noticed that - maybe it is indeed connected to your HW? I shouldn't think so, it used to be fine, as I say it just happened after one of the big updates. Perhaps I just need to do a reinstall sometime but it's not a game breaker.

Well, the Saitek Evo Force FFB worked for me up until 4.07. After that just crashes until I turned off the FFB. Just a friendly reminder to the devs that they broke something that needs to be fixed. I should plug in my Logitech wingman 3D and see if the FFB still works there.

There's a unofficial firmware that fixes this, its in the hardware subforum

AEthelraedUnraed Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Just now, Noisemaker said: You'd be surprised to find out how many XP systems are still out there. I know, I work at an IT helpdesk. Although with us it's usually because some specialised software is only available for XP/7 or because the license for a new version would cost multiple hundreds of thousands of euros. I can tell you, trying to install Win7 32bit (which doesn't natively support USB3.0) on modern hardware ain't pretty. If you're a normal consumer though, there's not a single reason to still use XP or 7. If anyone who reads this still has either of those operating systems, I beg you to please upgrade as its continued use is a danger to your own digital safety and therefore by extension to others'.
