Small ring around plane on Objectives Map

I flew the new update for the first time last night. 8v8, D7 vs camel in the QMB flying over the new Velikiye Luki summer map. I was chasing down the lone remaining camel who was making a run for it about 2.5km away. When i opened the objectives map I notice that his plane had a faint red circle around it, never seen that before. Based on range, I'd guess it was a 1km radius.

 

I could barely keep up with him so the chase was long and slow but as soon as I crossed into that circle, he turned to fight.

 

Is this the AI's sight range? Area of perception?

Reaction bubble maybe?  I’ve heard the AI repeatedly say they are engaging the enemy at anything up to 10km range, so they certainly can “see” very far out.

Usually when you see circles like that it is highlighting an area of ground control or some such thing. In some of the career missions when you are patrolling over friendly forces, tehre is a ring like this that shows the location of fighters that enter it, and then the direction of approach is called out. maybe something similar is in some of the AI planes if they are scouts or something?

Sometimes..Not always and it seems random with no change of settings, I see a ring around an airfield like a radar (Moscow map 1941) showing blue and red planes. Is this supposed to be a simulated radar?

 

Did the Germans have a radar on the Ost front? That could be a decent way to communicate in SP with Air Control and Plane spotting finding the enemy. Especially if you are the group leader.

It's supposed to be a simulated ground spotter.

Is it random? Im in PWCG and see it very rarely.

No, it's added by mission generator logic (although, depending on the mission logic, that means they can be added randomly ?). I don't use PWCG myself, but in the default career you'll usually find one on ground cover missions. Quick missions also often have them.

I repeated the scenario to see if I could find an example. Here it is again on the plane that is chasing me (near Karatay) but not the one I am chasing in 0803-3.

 

Does the fact that we are all three inside the blue circle centered around that ground unit in 0804-1??
