Hi, new flyer - requesting help with Logitec Pro 3D setup - cannot get trim to work

Hi, I know how to set up my Logitek 3D Pro joystick, but some controls don't seem to be working. I have set elevator trim to buttons 2 and 4 (on left side of hat on top of joystick) but my nose is going down all the time and no matter how much I send trim up or down it does not seem to have any effect (flying IL2 1942).  Also, I keep looking down in the cockpit at the wheel on the left side which looks like trim, but nothing moves when I push buttons up or down. In the setup it says: "Elevator Trim axis" and then "Elevator Trim switch up" and "Elevator Trim switch down" - I don't know what the first does (trim axis) and am assuming the other two are like turning the trim wheel up and down.  I also have the same problem with the Aileron Trim - doesn't seem to do anything - I have constant 'pull' or drift into a right turn and cannot correct with the aileron trim. Must I do something with the 'Axis' setting in both?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Be sure to assign your buttons on all trim options in the key mapping menu - see the screenshot as a hint.

Game has three different commands for longitudinal trim, need for different types of plane, but you can (should)  assign the same buttons (or keys) for all types of trim.

- Elevator trim axis

- Elevator trim switch up

- Elevator trim switch down

- Stabilizer adjust

So no mater what plane you are flying, press the buttons make "nose or tail heavy". ?

And, not every plane has trim for aileron and rudder (e.g. Bf 109, Fw 190...)

The default key for IL-2 1942 elevator trim is Right-cntrl+up/Right-cntrl+down. Reset to those key strokes and see if they work. If not, something besides trim is wrong (e.g. your joystick is not centering); if yes, then it is a mapping/joystick button issue.

The elevator trim reel on the Il-2 1942 is at:

Many thanks Therion, yes maybe I only had the axis set, or the switch up and down . . . now I see I must set all three.  That's probably my problem.

Thanks Sokol 1 . . . yes, maybe I didn't have all three (axis, up and down switches) set so that may be my problem.

However, last thing I tried was the default keyboard setting  R Ctl and up and down arrows, but that seems to have no effect either.  I tried tapping numerous time for up and same for down but no move.  Also tried continuous holding of R Ctl and down and opposite but still no move in nose up or down.

Thanks cardboard_killer . . . I'll look at the movie ... appreciated.  If I look down at the trim wheel I should be able to see if my key mapping is working.

Overall, I'll keep trying till I get it right . . . the main thing is that there should be elevator trim working on the IL2 if I understand you guys correctly, so I'll keep trying till I get a response from the nose.

Many thanks all.

While on the ground use view the plane from outside view (F2) and watch the trim tab move from a viewer's perspective. Or turn on the information ticker and when you change trim it will inform you of the change. Turn it off again after your done if you don't like flying with that "cheat".

EDIT: the trim "wheel" on the IL-2 1942 is at eye level, looks like a fishing reel and is next to the Oil temp gauges. The movie is queued up to that very point, no need to watch more than five seconds of it.
