352nd_Wheels Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Just what the title asks. Is it possible to make a train run in reverse? Is it possible to link two train engines together so that their combined power will help one another pull a longer train? Wheels
jollyjack Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) If they do i understood it was a bug ... when they reverse all of a sudden, and it seems the whole train is reversed. I havens seen it yet ... PS i tried, but the set train is turned around towards the 1st waypoint .. Edited August 23, 2020 by jollyjack

Train cars are a selected add on to the engine in the properties dialogue screen. The trains are limited in how many cars you can add. After that it just ignores more listed cars.

Jaeger answered you but FYI, the train engines do not have any “power” so to speak. They’re not modeled to that degree of detail.
Beebop Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) So I did a little test. I used my Train Group and placed it on the map and took off all the cars. Then I duplicated that and placed the engines nose to tail. Next try I took out the logic for Engine 2 and duplicated Object Links to Engine onto Engine 2. This was the result for both setups; Engines At Start: Engines In Motion After Timer Kicks In: They kept real close until... Eventually On Downhill: and they stopped. So then I added cars to Engine 2; And When The Timer Kicked In This Was The Result: Then I turned Engine 1 around so it faced Engine 2; And when the timer Kicked in; So, Yes two trains engines can run nose to tail...until the hit a downhill section. If two Engines are "pulling" a consist, Engine 1 having no load, rabbits ahead of Engine 2. If you face an Engine away from it's waypoint it flips around when triggered and will not run in reverse. If it has an consist the entire train will flip around upon activation. Edited August 25, 2020 by Beebop 1 1
352nd_Wheels Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 Thank you for the replies. I experienced the same train orientation shift too jollyjack. I have had it happen when the train started and the entire train reversed orientation and at other times when the train stopped just the engine reversed orientation. My goal was to have a train actually run in reverse from point A to point B but that seems to be undoable at this time. I tried grouping two trains together to see if that would help with the speed but all that did was leave everything at the station except the lead engine. Train 1: g8 engine, g8 coal tender, Train 2: g8 engine, g8 coal tender, 38, flak gun, several boxcars, 38, flak gun When I ran the mission I ended up with this. Train 1: g8 engine - running like heck for its waypoint Train 2: g8 coal tender from train 1, g8 engine, g8 coal tender, 38, flak gun, several boxcars, 38, flak gun - Sitting at the station. Wheels
IckyATLAS Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 If you try to make a train go backwards, then the whole train will instantly rotate front to tail so that it will always be in a forward motion.
352nd_Wheels Posted August 28, 2020 Author Posted August 28, 2020 Thanks Icky, I saw a train do exactly as you describe when I used the Vehicle: Forward, Formation Command. I had thought since there was a Vehicle: Backward, Formation Command, it might be possible to run a train in reverse like other Vehicles. Having seen some other recent threads on Trains I can see they are lacking quite a bit of the functionality I wanted. Just have to try another way to get the results I seek it seems. Nothing new for seasoned IL-2 mission builders. Wheels
jollyjack Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) Look forward to the day that a TC version comes around, but then as Train Crew .. Battle of the Trains? Once experimenting with train routes and trains on the same track gave me this; they slowed down before the meet-up, and they kept pushing: Edited August 31, 2020 by jollyjack
