TAIPAN_ Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Is there any way to launch VR directly with a shortcut or batch file without opening Steam? Because I'm running so many parallel programs (Joystick, VR addons, drivers etc) I'm trying to cut down the steps to get in and out of the game. Must be a way to tell IL-2 to open in VR, which would kick off SteamVR at the same time?
dburne Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) Not sure what device you have, but if you have VR checked in the game UI, just launching the game should in fact launch it in VR with Steam VR. Now if you are running the Steam Version of the game, that might be a different story. Note for non Steam Version, you don't even need Steam running. It should launch Steam VR when you launch the game. Edited August 21, 2020 by dburne
TAIPAN_ Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Yeah it's the steam version, if launch in VR mode it checks the box automatically, if launch in 2D mode it unchecks the box. Doesn't seem to be manual control of that.

firdimigdi Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 (edited) Some games under Steam don't mind if you launch them from their executable as long as there is a steam_appid.txt containing the game's ID in the same directory. So in theory if you do that (by starting il2.exe instead of tha game's launcher) and have previously set it in VR mode the config won't change and it'll go straight to VR. Sadly I can't test as I too don't own the steam ver. Edited August 22, 2020 by Firdimigdi 1

Link your Steam and IL2 accounts if you haven't already. In game settings enable VR. Then create a desktop short cut for the IL2 app file found in - Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game Fire up your VR headset and double click the short cut. SteamVR will start automatically. Edited August 22, 2020 by QB.Gordon200 1

When creating the shortcut from Steam it links to steam://rungameid/307960, or if you use Steam in taskbar right click->Play IL2 both of these shortcuts go to 2D regardless of the VR setting in game. But when you link to exe the shortcut in C:\...\Steam\common\IL2 etc then it works Thanks! 1

It asks me to login with my IL-2 account and ONLY shows those purchases from the website, none of the steam content. So it seems the only way is to launch through steam. Just did a bit of googling and found a solution: 1. In steam go to game properties and create shortcut 2. Edit the shortcut and change "rungameid" to "launch" 3. Add /vr to the end of the shortcut Final shortcut is to "steam://launch/307960/vr" which works 4 less clicks in getting setup to play Edited August 23, 2020 by Dan_Taipan 2 2 1
