Mysticpuma Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 That's about it. I have tried lots of different ways to make the stick work for me but alas I am giving up and selling it. With that in mind can anyone suggest a "smooth" moving stick, very accurate and throttle combination. My frustration with the Warthog has been dead spots meaning variable movements /throw of the stick were needed for tiny incremental movements and it has never felt accurate. I really want a stick that feels like my stick movement matches how it moves in game. I know quality doesn't come cheap but hopefully £600 will get me in the right area. Any suggestions and links appreciated. Cheers, Mysticpuma
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I'd recommend Virpil gear. In my experience the precision and quality are significantly better. Your budget is fairly reasonable. Note that the Thrustmaster grips are compatible with the Virpil bases, so you could keep your current grip and only buy a base if that appeals to you. 1
Mysticpuma Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Is there a popular/recommended one? The VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Grip is compatible with the following bases: ★ VPC MongoosT-50 Base★ VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base★ VPC WarBRD Base
Rei-sen Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 (edited) Apart from Virpil, you can also check out the VKB Gunfighter stick. They're both great. The only thing is, the WarBRD base from Virpil is table top. If you choose a long version of a stick, I suggest getting a desk mount from MonsterTech instead of the one made by either of joystick manufacturers since the MonsterTech one is way more comfortable, more compact and overall a better construction. dburne Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I use a VKB Gunfighter Pro with extension and Monster Tech Mount. Really love the setup. I reviewed it here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/57669-vkb-gunfighter-mk-iii-pro-l-review/ 1 2
DD_Arthur Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 For a new throttle I’d seriously consider a GVL unit. Price is seriously competitive for a handmade, built to order, high quality product. 1 1

So I can unscrew the stick and plug it directly into a WarBRD Base?

Cuts down on muscle memory problems and you save the cost of the grip. This has to be married up to a desk mount. You can go down the WarBRD base route if you can only use a stick on a desk. The extension I have is 7.5cm. Mongoos T-50CM2 throttle. von Tom Edited August 21, 2020 by von_Tom Typos 2

T50CM2 and WarBRD. T50 is obsolete, no more available. T50CM2 base is exclusive for use in deskmount, without or with extension. Gimbal has less angular movement for allow use log extensions. WarBRD base can be used over desktop - gimbal has more angular movement than T50CM2, with Thrustmaster F-16/F-18 grips height result similar to Warthog over desk, with VirPIl T50M2 grip a bit more tall. Can be used in deskmout without or with extension up to 50 mm, more may have conflicts (legs, desk) due more angular movement of gimbal. 1 hour ago, Mysticpuma said: So I can unscrew the stick and plug it directly into a WarBRD Base? Yes, you have option to keep your Thrusmaster Warthog grip and throttle (sell the base in eBay) and get just VirPil base. Same option with VKB base, but need an extra electronic/mechanical adapter. Since VirPil and VKB base use CAM center system with different options of profiles and springs, you can customize their "feel". Both options are a much superior mechanics (concept and materials - metal) than the plastic ball and joint used in Warthog.
BP_Lizard Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Well that’s depressing to read. My T-50 is now obsolete. ?

I think I will go the T50CM2 firstly and then consider building around it if necessary. Thanks for the advice chaps ? 1

My favourite setup for the base with a 7.5cm extension is: Roll - Aviasim no centre cam Pitch - Aviasim soft centre cam Tension - heavy screws tightened down then released 8 turns It feels different to the Warthog and perhaps the best feature is that when you deflect the stick more the resistance builds quickly so you end up not using too much input. von Tom 1
