Tansu Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Hi, I have been absent from IL2 for a few years and now, as I am planning to get back in, I need some help as I am a bit confused. 1) Which IL2 has the latest/most advanced game engine? Or do they all use the same (BoS, BoB, BoK etc.)? 2) I am thinking of buying Desert Wings Tobruk but can see its based on Cliffs over Dover. Does that mean its built in an older game engine? Or has it been updated to the latest engine? 3) I prefer single player and "scripted" campaigns, which one should I get? For your information I allready own Battle of Stalingrad and Cliffs over Dover. Thanks for your help!
No.85_Camm Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) In order to get the Tobruk expansion, you need to purchase the 'Blitz' add-on to Clod first Bos and Clod are two different engines Edited August 19, 2020 by No.85_Camm 1
Mika_87 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Here is some usefull information about il series https://stormbirds.blog/2020/04/25/il-2-great-battles-which-one-should-i-buy/ I really like that stormbirds site. It is THE best place to read sim news and reviews. Edited August 19, 2020 by Mika_87 1 1
Lusekofte Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 For single player it start comming on Bodenplatte. But what pack to buy depend on what plane you like. Kuban get the prettiest map and a cool plane set. 1

The BoX engine is "newer" but the CLoD engine does some things better, such as having a larger number of planes in the air. I'd say BoX, while serving multiplayer more, has more room for the single player, too. But you've asked in a BoX folder and might get a different answser in the CLoD folder. 1
AEthelraedUnraed Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Just now, Elem said: IL-2 Forgotten Battles: March 2003... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IL-2_Sturmovik:_Forgotten_Battles IL-2 Great Battles: November 2013... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IL-2_Sturmovik:_Great_Battles IL-2 Cliffs of Dover: March 2011 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IL-2_Sturmovik:_Cliffs_of_Dover Nowhere in his post does he mention IL2 FB ? But yeah, BoX is the newer and more advanced engine. 1
Tansu Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Great guys, thank you, I now have a good view of the currect situation. Battle of Bodenplatte is now installed, TrackIR updated and the stick calibrated. I am ready? 1
Soilworker Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 One thing that might not be important to you yet is that Great Battles (BoX) is VR compatible. I and many others can highly recommend IL-2 in VR, it's definitely worth looking into. 1 2
=FEW=fernando11 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 OP mentioned singleplayer and scripted campaigns. Look arround the forum for free il2 GB missions/campaigns. AND on the store for payed scripted campaigns. I'm not really playing that much SP, but all the payed scripted campaigns I have tryed seem really nice. 1

PatrickAWlson Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 IL2 is the only thing I use my VR headset for. The implementation is amazing. 1
