I have bought the game, and I am not sure how to install it. I went and downloaded the launcher and it installs great battles instead.

Yep, that's it. Launch it and play it.

It has a little different feel then other games you might be use to at first. I remember the first time I started the game, I was looking at a plane in a garage, which didn't quite look right considering I was expecting to see a tank. Click on "Quick Mission", then click on one of the "black tanks in white circle icons", then select the tank you want by clicking on the little wrench icon, then hit START. You should see a tank sitting in your garage whenever your back. Enjoy, and don't hesitate ask questions.

is there any way to speed up the download, or do I have to deal with it choosing?

Salutations,

Download speed is probably dictated by you internet connection or service provider. I have Spectrum Cable Service and get between 4-5 Mbs download speed. I'm sure there are faster but mine is fine.

Not for me. My internet is super quick and yet it had to be left on overnight when I got this game. I can download 20-50gig in about 20mins most places.

I would more suggest ports anti virus etc slowing things. Perhaps even region.

boy oh boy do I wish I could get internet that fast, the most I can do is 500 to 700 kb/s. also, how long should installation take?

Damn.... it will take a LONG time to download at  5-700 Kbs.

You might consider letting it download overnight while you sleep. ?

I did, but I think it has gotten stuck on installation. its also making some windows run really slow such as Photoshop and windows explorer.

Ensure you don't have any unneeded programs running in the background. Turn them off if you can. ?

This is as far as it seems to have gotten, would it restart the entire download if I close this, or will it try to do the installation part again? https://ibb.co/XW8Vw8N

How long has it been installing? Shouldn't take too long. I wouldn't go and cancel it unless more than an hour had gone by with no visible progress.

I'm not sure, I woke up and it was on the installation.

Ah, alright, give it some time, maybe it has just started installing.

Do you have an SSD? Is it almost full?

Just for your information, SSDs lose performance as free disk space decreases.

Still installing?! I have a vague recollection of low disk space freezing my installation.

Yep, still installing, but I'm not sure there is anything I could get rid off on my SSD.

Do you see disk space reducing? That would be a sign of installation progress.

You could also install the game in a secondary disk.

There are also other ways of getting info from one disk to another while making the games believe they are still at the original folder.

I do not download anything to my SSD (not intentional at least). Its still at 11.4 gigs.  I think its just taking a long long time, because I just checked the folder its going into and its went from 2.53 to 2.57 in maybe an hour. :\

Not normal at all. Given what you're saying, I would interrupt.

I stopped it and rebooted, I open the launcher again and it says "Downloading game client (2.17 kB/22.44 GB), 0/s" Its not letting me stop it either, it just says "stopping background task. please, wait" and is stuck.

My game occupies 220 Gb of which 45 Gb are skins. So I guess there's your problem.

If it doesn't stop I believe you may have to delete the folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\updates

(or your equivalent)

Not at all.

Forget the space thing. I have 134 Gb of tracks... So you'd be good.

What's your free space now? (after deleting). Remember you need 22 Gb for the download and then the size of the game...

I have now successfully installed the game. I shall now enjoy for a few minutes as it is pretty late. Thanks for all the help everyone, and if there is another problem, I will probably ask here again.
