GOOD MORNING ALL.

So, fearing the worst, I got up, poured a cup of coffee and cranked up the 'puter.

Expecting the worst but hoping for the best I fired up the mission and........................

NO PROBLEMS!

Then I went into the ME and did a little work.  I came out and tested and...NO ISSUES!

I believe the problem is resolved.

Again a HUGE thanks to RedKestrel for his thoughtful suggestions and his gentle, persistent reminders to check my mods.  His help was invaluable.

And thanks for your input too Missionbug.

Bottom line, I hope the mini-hell I went through will help someone else who might be struggling with some kind of issue.

Remember to;

Keep your eye on the ball.

Keep your shoulder to the wheel.

Keep your ears to the ground.

(now, try and work in that position ? )

No mate,  I ended up completely deleting the game only for a new install to stop in the exact spot 2.44mb. I am currently out in Iraq (Baghdad) with a pretty crappy internet (I.e) slowwwww but I’ve nearly managed to download DCS without a hitch 48 hours and still going.

Maybe post in the 'Installation' stickied thread as well as this one, and i would lodge a ticket with Support to get the ball rolling there. I've tried searching the forums for this issue with no luck.... I  KNOW I have seen it before but can't for the life of me find the fix. I THINK the fix was to delete the 'updates' folder but that obviously hasn't worked here. What kind of antivirus and other software have you got running? I wonder if this update is just making some AV software go crazy...

Hello Beebop, the team usually advises turning off your mods and maybe also your anti virus after every update so you can start up and see first if the game fires up without issue and like you have test each mod you activate to see what happens.

From experience I found that the authentic markings mod and those for map paints were usually good to go, however, some that dealt with game effects seemed to cause crashes, these mods use a particular file inside that seems to be updated by the development team for each patch so if certain mods have not had that file updated this is where the problems arise, unfortunately I cannot remember what the file is called. testing is tedious I know but I now seem to have only things activate that over time have proved to be okay so it cuts down considerably the testing time as you kind of get a feel for the things that might be a issue.;)

Anyway, hope all is well for you from here on, for me this was the first problem of the game updating and not running so I learnt something from it although it was annoying, hopefully if there is a next time I will be able to better deal with it, downloading is a pain for me due to the time it takes, last thing I need is the game not starting after that lengthy wait. :drinks:

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Thanks for the comments Missionbug.

I have learned one valuable lesson above all others, always start the game with the il2.exe, NOT the Launcher.

Ever since I got the game I have always started the game with the Launcher thinking it was the best way to go and by doing that, if there is an update waiting, it automatically starts.  Up until this update I had never had a problem.  But also up to this update I never had MalwareBytes have a problem with the game.  This time....well you see what a problem it caused.

But I learned at lot of stuff so the experience, though painful and mentally stressful, taught me some valuable lessons.  Which is always the very best way to learn.  One can be told "DON'T!" but until one does and sees the result of that decision, is just words.

So now I launch with the .exe.  If there is an update available it won't let me start the game.  I will know to disable all MODS and my AV programs, then update and then run the game "clean" to make sure it works.  If it does then I can re-enable my mods.  And, if at that point it doesn't work correctly I know it's a mod and I can do what I did this time, painstakingly go through and add the mods one at a time until the culprit or culprits are found.

Thank god that COVID has kept me from the barber.  I need all that hair to grow out so I have room for my bigger, better brain. ?

Sorry this isn't working for you. Keep us posted and definitely start with Support, I'm sure we can figure this out one way or another.

This search turned up the threads I remembered:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/search/?&q="update download"&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy

A few things to try- just restart the computer a few times, click on the launcher, and see if it ever gets past 2.44 mb. It seems to have worked for a few people. It has worked for me with download issues in the past.

Another thing - some people say installing in Program Files sometimes makes Windows tetchy. So you can try deleting what you have and installing the game in a folder you make like C:/Games to rule out that as an issue. Maybe Windows is freaking out at you trying to install something in what it thinks is a protected folder.

Make sure that Il-2 is exempt under your Firewall policies and antivirus policies, if not already.

Excellent advise!  Since Windows Vista, Program Files and Program Files(x86) has been protected by the OS for "User Safety".

Personally I think it's a good idea for the casual computer user.  But flight simmers/gamers/power users should have an option to turn that "protection" off, at their own risk of course, as programs that make registry entries almost always have to go into one of those two locations.

Fortunately IL-2 does not use the registry so you can, as RedKestrel suggested, put it anywhere you want on the hard drive of your choice.

Have patience and good luck.  Let us know how it turns out.

WHEN I GET TO THE SIGN IN WINDOW in IL-2 GREAT BATTLES AFTER I LAUNCH THE GAME, I clicked the sign in button and I get a "#10027: Packed Data Verification Failed" error....Well I took a chance or I had a idea to go into the C/Program File\Il-2 Strurmovik\updates..... "Update Folder" and delete a folder "within" that update folder labeled "20-08-17" Note: This is the label of that folder in my system....So your label of that folder is going to be labeled DIFFERENT>>>> So I "Deleted" that folder ONLY and NOT the entire "Update Folder"......THAT SOLVED THE "PACKED FILE ERROR" PROBLEM in my case!!!!!!

Never managed to get the game to download  further than 244.77mb outside of steam but there you go. at least the Devs get a little more money out of me :) thanks for the help guys
