Siv5122 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Hello everyone! Just because I enjoy doing a bit of writing from time to time, I've decided to write a fictional story behind a J-26 skin I made. It's a timeline in which Sweden joins the war, and allows for Female pilot's to fly in combat. I hope you enjoy! Again, the units and pilots in this are fictional, based off of WW2 Sweden. Here's a link to my Discord if you'd like the PDF version: https://discord.gg/7X7MdMf Chapter 1: Spoiler The year is 1945. The German Reich is much larger than the allied and Comintern forces expected it to be. They still hold territory just north of Rome, and the Soviets are struggling to push them back, though having superiority on the front. The reason? Japan declared war on the USSR in late 1944, and ironically, the axis powers were cooperating. Due to this, the allies wanted to open a Nordic front to connect with the Western Front-the the only one that seemed to be progressing-and encircle the Germans between the West and the East. From late 1944 to early 1945, the allies negotiate with the Swedish, promising they will quickly move troops to support the front, and invade Norway in January 1945 to give reassurance. Finally, on February 15th, 1945, the Swedish Government declared war on the Reich. At the same time, the Swedish Air Force was lend leased 50 P-51D Mustangs, named the J-26 by the Swedes. These were soon used by the pilots on F-11 Svenska Airwing, and that is where our story begins. Svenja was one of the few female pilots in the Svenska Flygvapnet, the Swedish Air Force. She had been allowed in as the war heated up in 1944 with Finland joining the continuation war. She was thrilled at the arrival of the J-26s, originally only flying J-22s, and quickie grew attached to one, with she had named after her. She enjoyed the aircraft’s speed mostly, being able to dive down, dispatch her squadronmates in practice dogfights, and zoom away. However, after just a few test flights, Svenja would be seeing combat. She was moved to forward airbase Försvarsmakten Blekinge flygflottilj F 17, and began combat against the Germans in Denmark in mid-March, 1945. Chapter 1: Baptism of Fire The briefing ended, and Svenja’s flight of four walked away to their planes. Their orders were to hit a German Jet fuel storage plant just west of Copenhagen, dropping American made M65 1000lb bombs. A flight of RAF Spitfires would be giving top cover. With Svenja were three of her close friends, Lars, Erik, and Karl. They were Kung Flight, Lars being flight lead, Svenja his wingman(or rather, wing woman) and Erik was element lead, with Karl being on his wing. “Svenja”, Lars said as they climbed into their fighters, “Once we finish our attack run, I want you to re-establish contact with the spitfires should they get into a fight. I know I’m flight lead, but I’ll need to cover Erik and Karl as they egress, they’re still new”. “Not a problem, I’ll make sure to, then rejoin” she replied. The four J-26s started their engines, their mixtures full rich, there RPMs set for takeoff, and taxii’d to the runway. A flare was fired. “Kung Flight, you are cleared for takeoff” Their engines roared as they advanced the throttle forward, and one by one they took off, heading towards the town of Hörby, where they would rendezvous with the Spitfires. “Kung 1-1, this is Gold 1-1, in position at 12,000” “Copy Gold 1-1, pushing to target” Soon they had sight of the fuel storage, as anti-aircraft fire over Copenhagen lit up the sky. They dived down to 2,000ft and split their flight in two, Erik and Karl lagging a mile behind. Lars targeted the fuel silos, while Svenja targetted the main buildings. They dropped, and the fuel storage site burst into flames, only a few targets remaining for Erik and Karl to- “This is Gold 1-1, engaging Bf-109s, they’re close, out” Gold flight had gotten engaged with four German Bf-109s. Remembering Karl’s orders, she quickly climbed to altitude to re-establish visual contact, ready to radio the rest of Kung Flight to join the fray- but just as she popped through the clouds, a stream of tracer fire flew over her left-wing! “Kung 1-2, 109 on my tail!” She quickly turned into the German, who overshot and looped for another run. By the time Svenja had made a half-turn, the German was back on her six. This time she tried to bait the 109 pilot. She turned and dived into the German, initiating a high speed rolling scissors. The 109, foolishly, did the same. They passed each other several times, just seconds from getting a shot. Finally, as the German pulled out from the dive, Svenja managed to line up a shot and fired. She hit the Germans oil tank, oil leaked from the German fighter, and partially stained her canopy. By this time, Karl had joined the fight and hit the German a few times in it’s left-wing. The 109 went into a spin- a death sentence at 2,000 feet- and crashed into the ground. “Kung 1-1, Bf-109 down” “Roger Kung 1-1, we’ve chased off the last of the buggers, you can go ahead and egress” “Copy Gold 1-1, egressing now” They had soon landed and were being debriefed. The Fuel storage plant was mostly destroyed, Erik and Lars being able to bring down the rest of the fuel silos. The mission was a huge success and would hinder German jets from engaging on the Nordic Front- for now. Karl and Svenja shared the 109 kill, getting a half kill each. Both now felt truly ready for combat, ready for anything the Luftwaffe had to throw at them, having had their baptism of fire. Edited August 16, 2020 by 361st_Siv5122 1
