Fighter Squadron: SDOE combined update or torrent?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Updating FS:SDOE with community content has ~32 required downloads and steps:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a combined all-in-one installer or torrent for the mods? Something similar to what Argon-V et al. did for FS-WWI?

S!

Haven´´t touched that title since release and shortly after. Is it still alive and modded etc?

Wasn´t that another half-finished release ?

Is this the same Fighter Squadron I've owned 20 years back??? Is  this still around? Astonishing...

Yes, was the CloD of 90's. A lot of good ideas, but publisher impose the release of "Alpha" version.

I think that it had a Lancaster if I remember correctly

Wow, totally forgotten about that. I created the first add-on aircraft for that. They had this “Open-plane” specification, really liked the idea.

I helped develop some of the first community made aircraft for SDOE, from memory: Bf109E-4, G-6 and K-4, Stuka and A6M2 Zero.  Maybe also a Fw190D-9.  Used to have a lot of fun flying online inter-squad sessions.  In many ways SDOE was years ahead of it time.

The one that suffered the most from that eventually was released after several years as "Jane's Attack Squadron"... the original interviews were extremely exciting... slightly moreso than Il-2 if I recall... lots of weather features, night fighting features that took years to appear in any simulator, modding tools... at least those things were discussed.

Which one?

...and the Mosquito. I was excited for months prior to release (I was quite young at the time and easily excitable)... the weird flightmodel (prior to patching/refinement), the fact that ground units would snipe you with their main guns, and particularly the fact that there were no AI aircraft at all... (which lead to the "North Africa" campaign having units that start with the Fw-190 until it is phased out by the introduction of the newer Me-262...) was incredibly disappointing

The He-100D. Totally useless I know, but I had just bought a book about it. I didn't know much about 3d editing, the uv coords I typed directly in the file I think :)

Maybe... :) I remember it.

I actually suspect it is the reason why I floated the idea of a Cliffs expansion DLC with the Whirlwind & Fw-187, along with the He-100... as part of an alternate history 'what if the competitors had won?' concept.

It is also the type of aircraft which caused me to ask about a torrent in the first place - there are a bunch of aircraft that we won't see in modern high fidelity sims... so I have to look to FS:SDOE to try flying them! It was the odd-balls (and the Ju-188) that caused me to look into reinstalling. Thirty-two steps is a bit much though! FS-WWI (Argon V was the lead) eventually had a unified installer... which was really nice.

P.S. Thanks for the He-100... It was nice to be able to try it back in the day!

Well I just got back into 3d modelling. Now using Blender which is great. Perhaps I'll create a He-100D for FS2020 haha

Yeah! I started exploring blender... I was looking into making 3d cockpits for X-plane. I made one mesh which rendered but I realised I really should learn to 3d model properly if I were going to do it seriously. FYI - I reviewed drawings for ~1000 designs, built a model for ~80 and maybe found about 30 that I'd really like to finish!

However, I'd have to get better at 3d modelling, and get appropriate instruments, and find cockpit references (which can be hard for some of these aircraft). It was quite a bit of effort to get the pipeline set up for generating correct airfoil tables (used ~4 pieces of software). But some civil aircraft designs have really odd characteristics, interesting histories, and are a lot of fun.

Howdy all! Sorry for the thread necro in advance... But I just ran across this post! It really brings back great memories seeing and reading about some of the first user-made aircraft for SDOE. The He-100D was the first I ever downloaded, followed by the ones Yardstick created. Remember the "Contest Pack" anyone? ;)

So, you don't need all of those installers if you just want the basic modded Fighter Squadron - Just the "Base Pack" installed bits, steps 1 - 8 here: https://www.moddb.com/games/fighter-squadron-screamin-demons-over-europe/tutorials/fighter-squadron-install-order Everything else after that is optional.

I still have the ole gal up and running on my Win 10 gaming machine, and I still have hopes of getting back to modding for FS-WWI some day. I have many 3d models I've yet to import in-game!

Yes - but that means tracking down 8 downloads on the website, and then downloads for any expansions :) A weekend afternoon almost. It'd be nice if there was one big download somewhere that had all the installers.

Also, ArgonV - never apologise for necroing SDOE or FS-WW1!

Yes I agree, we did that for the FS-WWI side of things, and there was some Aus ISO version of the SDOE WW2 side - however it was not updated as frequently as the packs were...

FS-WWI forever!
