Tempus Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) Another VIP-51D: "Frenesi" flown by Lt.Col. Thomas L. Hayes, Deputy Commander of the 357th.FG, March 1944. Her name was from a famous song in 40's : "Free & Easy", but if you take it from the spanish word "frenesí" could be translate to "frenzy", "Fury" and also matchs. Enjoy it and go frantic in it !!! Tempus Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 As a skin painter, there are few rare & wonderful cases you want to find once or twice... and for me this is one of those rares. We are used to see and reproduce all those "common" and also spectacular, more represantive skins of every A/C. I really like them but.... there's something special in underdogs that really attracts me. When you see first time the quality of the actual pictures, the country yard that simulated a front line campaign airfiield the pal pilot proudly posing, more like a farmer (all my respects to farmers) with his new "John Deere" besides than a militar doing a war and the aircraft itself: you can observe here not every mustang units shine like in "Discovery channel's overhauling episodes: Chroma is my very best friend", even they were naked from any paiting. These pictures are really telling a story and sometimes it's pure and true "love at first sight". My main objective in this skin is portraying all those details that tell you its story.... their war story. WIP 2
Tempus Posted September 22, 2020 Author Posted September 22, 2020 (edited) History & stories: I want to introduce you a couple of Ladies that flown long time ago, during WW2 times: "Miss Velma" flown by Capt.Frank E. Birtciel, 343rd. FS, 55th. FG based at Wormingford, Essex in 1944. Second Miss: "Contrary Mary" flown by Lt.Col. Roy Caviness, 84th. FS, 78th. FG based at Duxford in 1945 Several years ago from WW2 ending a group of enthusiasts overhauled a TF-51 and created a modern view of the original "Miss Velma" for airshows purpouses....but in 2017.... But like Phoenix Bird She reborned from her ashes and became "Contrary Mary". https://vintageaviationecho.com/mustang-contrary-mary/ . So I'd decided to mix this history stories and this is the result: 3 skins pack "Original WW2 Miss Velma", based in the black & White pic and also in same but coloured one original lateral squadron ribbon was red not yellow, also she didn't wear the black ID wing stripes neither the invasion stripes in low fusselage. The coloured pic also reveals that "Miss Velma" words were painted in the same colour as the chequered nose: greenish and yellowish. Former "Modern Miss Velma" "Contrary Mary", nowadays version is a copycat of the original one, IMAO. Quote: all chequered painting has been done by me (I burnt several hours before I'd discovered the ICDP mustang template second version that includes the chequers....Anyways....proud of the final result ;)))) Edited September 28, 2020 by Tatata_Time No freedom expression NO CONTENT SHARING 1
