Will the Shorts Sunderland Ever be Player Flyable?

I've wanted to fly a Sunderland for years. My uncle was an RCAF Airman who perished in one over Scotland in 1944. I've dreamed of a day when I could take off in a flight sim and fly a combat mission in a Sunderland out of some UK airbase. I have First Class Simulation's Sunderland for FSX, but of course it's not the same. When I noticed the Sunderland I and Sunderland I/Trop were selectable aircraft in a Tobruk quick mission I got excited, but sadly they're not available under Options > Plane. I'm guessing the 4 engines might pose a problem for making them player flyable in IL-2 CLOD.

Anyhow...I pose the question to the devs none the less; will the Sunderland ever be available for players to fly?

Probably not, it is a huge undertaking to model the cockpit and all the stations in that aircraft,  which would get minimal attention from the community.

S!

Saw a Sunderland in RAF Museum Hendon. It is a HUGE plane. Very nasty one to attack in CloD/Tobruk, literally the Flying Porcupine ?

To model the Sunderland as flyable requires a huge effort and much time which could be spent on other aircraft.

The cockpit is as complex as a B-17's.

At this point, with the level of interest this aircraft would generate, the chances of us making it flyable are very low.

IL2 1946 with all of the SAS mods allows you to fly a Sunderland and a Lancaster.

Nope, I called dibbs on the Avro Lancaster yesterday, so you will just have to get in line. TFS just didn't want to be so blunt about their answer, but I can't afford to be nice when it comes to Lancaster or Sunderland. Lancaster first, Sunderland second, that's just how it is Sir.

With the exception of Birds of Steel, War Thunder and IL-2 1946 Mods, in what game has the Avro Lancaster? To me, I'd pick a Lancaster over a B-17 and B-24 in both IL-2 Dover series and Great Battles.

Probably not in TF 6.0, but maybe TF 7.0.

Maybe, but I've flown in a Sunderland, not in a B17.  So guess which gets my vote.  Three stories high inside, and when the turret hydraulic recuperator on the upper deck blows a seal it looks as though there are gallons of blood waterfalling down, all the way to the bilges.

I would do with a walrus and Heinkel 115. I will pay 200$ for each. I start to wonder ifI have to reinstall ROF in order to fly a seaplane again

I see you a Walrus and Raise you a Catalina!

How could you not want an aircraft that was capable of this? ?

"After the Fall of Rabaul in February 1942 the Catalina squadrons became the RAAF's only offensive weapon against the Japanese.[9] They were soon attacking Japanese targets in Lae, Salamaua and Rabaul. On 27 June, each squadron contributed an aircraft to a four-hour raid over Lae and Salamaua during which, as well as bombs, the RAAF crews of No. 20 Squadron dropped empty beer bottles to disrupt the Japanese soldiers' sleep.[10]"

It does not seem to widely acknowledged but the RAAF was also using Catalina's in the Middle East as well so maybe an option for COD Tobruk

Lol that is such an Aussie thing to do. I guess it's a form of effective recycling.

But were they really empty? It was standard practice amongst RAF bomber crews to bring along a beer bottle or two, since they were a lot more convenient to use than the Elsan toilet in the back. And once a bottle is full, there is little point in carrying it further. Apparently the Germans objected to this practice, claiming it was biological warfare...
