Feathered_IV Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Hello to the TF developers. I was able to pick up Desert Wings on release and hoped to find out if the game will permit users to add content or customise their installs by creating mods? I understand TeamFusion was born out of community-based modding, so I imagine the team is quite sympathetic to the idea of third party creators. Will any access be allowed to the game for things like Map, Object or Cockpit textures for example? cheers! 1 1
Mysticpuma Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Like the developers of BoX allow "mods on". NO one is asking for access to the Source Code, just TFS to allow players to mod within TFS, 1C confines ? 1 2

It seems obvious from Buzzsaw’s comment before he locked Mysticpuma’s thread that he dosen’ t really understand the BoX system of Mods On/Mods Off.
AndyJWest Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Whether a developer-approved 'mods on' version of CloD/DW would even be possible would very much depend on the way the code is structured, I'd have thought. IL-2 GB code has checks and restrictions built in to allow the developers to control modding, and without such code (which might be difficult to add retrospectively) approved 'modding' could become a whole can of worms. And as Buzzsaw says, they have a contractual agreement with 1C-777, and may be constrained in what they can do in this regard.
Feathered_IV Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 I just tried the Clod mod extraction tool made by Kegetys, the one which team fusion initially was using when they first began modding. It doesn't seem to work with this version currently, but maybe a way can be found later. I understand if TF cannot release tools to the public. However I hope that does not also mean they will be acting as 1c's sheriffs if players manage to add content on their own.
AndyJWest Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 What you 'hope' should happen and what the contract between TF and 1C-777 requires to happen may not necessarily be compatible though. If third parties mod the new CloD/DW code without FTs assistance then presumably TF won't be held accountable, but that isn't what is being asked here - which is that TF add a 'mods on' mode.

I'd expect that to be entirely within TFS only if past experience is anything to go by.

As someone who was once associated with TF, you should understand why we cannot offer access to 3rd parties. Sorry to disappoint modders, but not possible. Anyone who is knowledgeable and interested can ask to join TF... we are happy to incorporate new and talented people in our group... of course they need to observe and follow the directions and requirements of the contract with 1C if they do join.
