fastfed Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) I read through dozens of forum posts talking about all the stupid problems this game has with multiplayer games. I mean I open up DCS and within seconds I can have a game hosted with tons of friends playing. IL2, whether its the new one or cliffs of dover its always something I have opened up the port 27015 UDP , I try to create a game and when I click OK it either locks up or says connection to steam lost, exiting Why is this [EDITED] so hard? I mean who makes these games? and we give them money thats the sad part! Language plase. Edited August 13, 2020 by Bearcat

If you do a search of the ATAG forums, you will find instructions on how to set up Multiplayer missions. https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=47424&d=1588894115
VO101Tom Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) HI. In Clod if you want to fly with your friends, the best way to go into Multiplayer > Lobby > Create, then click on Play. On the next screen you can set the info page, what lobby name will they see, is there a password (check the security checkbox too), select the cores (the host should remove Tobruk core if He want to let in Blitz only clients too). Check the Realism settings too, uncheck if anything would be selected in "Aircraft Switching" section. If ready, click on OK. Next screen, you should select the mission, and done. Don't forget to click on "start mission" button when you are in the server. Your friends should see your lobby in the lobby main screen, and simply connect to you. I don't host regular servers, I can't help with that, but I usually host 1v1 or larger events with my friends, and we always use this Lobby. ps. I use a router, and I'm forwarding the 27160 port. Not sure this 27015 is good for the Lobby... Edited August 10, 2020 by VO101Tom
fastfed Posted August 10, 2020 Author Posted August 10, 2020 haha I know how to set up a multiplayer game, what I think people fail to realize is it doesn't work for 95% of the people, the lobby is easy and everyone sees each other and can join, yet when you go to that next screen, where you set up the info and cores, once you hit OK. FAIL, CRASH TO DESKTOP, CANNOT START SERVER and a load of other crappy issues.

I use this lobby with my friends since the beginning of the whole CloD franchise, I am pretty sure that the "Lobby" alone don't cause this.
OBT-Mikmak Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 (edited) Here is how i do to host a multiplayer mission:- Save your missions in the folder \ Documents \ 1C SoftClub \ il-2 sturmovik cliffs of Dover \ missions \ Multi \ Dogfight.- Start the mission in multiplayer (Multiplayer -> Lobby-> Create -> OK -> Play -> OK -> clic on three dot "..." -> Multi -> Dogfight -> Click on "Your_mission" -> Select -> Start battle).- Players can join the game (Multiplayer -> Lobby -> Join). To allow the players joining your mission, you would probably have to open and reroute following port in your internet router: UDP 27000 to 27030 and UDP 4380 Edited August 11, 2020 by OBT-Mikmak

However the steam can store the games connection details in it's cache file, and if this file store obsolete or corrupted data, that can cause this exact error (Steam connection lost, exiting). Clear download cache will reset all these settings (this was the "deleting clientregistry.blob" method on older steam clients). As I read on forums, this error appear on various games, but this cache cleaning usually solve it. I think the best if you and your friends also clear their steam cache.
