III./SG77S_Falke Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 It seems that I am now being constantly booted off from expert MP servers; sometimes nearly immediately while at other times the boot will occur rather far into a mission. Other people are seeing this issue as well and I believe it has to do with all the recent updates to the simulation. Other than that, does anyone have any idea as to why this has suddenly become an issue for some of us. Thank you...

I had gone a long time without suffering a disconnect and recently had one. I used to suffer them quite frequently on more distant servers and when my internet connection was poorer. It seems that some updates trigger a higher frequency of these but only for some players. My theory is that it has to do with ping or jitter spikes that trigger a 'high ping' kick or just cause a dropped connection. What servers specifically are you seeing this on? I see you are in NY, are you getting this on Combat Box?
III./SG77S_Falke Posted August 10, 2020 Author Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) RedKestrel... Thank you for your reply... ? I have been getting booted regularly from all the expert MP servers I usually fly on. These would include Combat Box, Finnish, Tactical Air War, and Knights of the Air. Sometimes I get disconnected rather quickly and other times I will get booted halfway through a mission. Four of our unit pilots including myself were booted from a Russian server yesterday (8/9/20) at various times. We fly with the Russian SG2 Air Regiment on Sundays quite often. And this is a server I have never had problems with until recently. One pilot was returning to base and was getting ready to land when he got booted. I have at times received the dreaded #10009 disconnect error while at other times, the IL2 screen simply freezes on me, though I am able to return to the Desktop on my workstation. I have run all of the ISP diagnostic tests possible on my router as well have rebooted it (while online with my ISP tech support). All of the tests showed that my router was working as expected and that there were also no outages in my area that would cause fluctuations in my Internet service. This is also the only situation I have been having with anything related to my Internet services. I have also noted that other pilots have been reporting similar issues recently... >>> Addendum (8/10/20 1:29PM EST) Our unit's Asjutant has just reported now that 8 out of 11 pilots lost connections during yesterday's mission on the Russian server. Again, this has alwaysbeen a rarity but it was now reacting like all the other servers I have been booted from as noted above. <<< Edited August 10, 2020 by III./SG77-S_Falke

I haven't had a disconnect for nearly a year, and then more recently I got one again on Combat Box for high ping, though my ping to that server is usually lower than 50. It could easily have been my internet connection which is better than before but not stellar, but it may also be that this update introduced some issue. Others also noted when I had this problem that they would see notifications of "RedKestrel is being Kicked for High Ping" even when I did not see those messages. Do you have the overlay on so you can see the chat when flying? Do you see anything like that before people disconnect Combat Box has a little tutorial thing on how to adjust packet sizes for better performance on Il-2, this may help reduce disconnects. I believe it is in the first post in the Combat Box thread. Have you tried that at all?
III./SG77S_Falke Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 (edited) RedKestrel... The only message my fellow pilots would see is the "loss of positional data" messages right before I kicked. I see the same when other pilots have been kicked recently... Thanks for the tip regrading the tutorial from CombatBox... I'll take a look at it... >>> Addendum 8/13/2020 5:42PM EST <<< I found the tutorial you suggested and tried it both on the CombatBox and Tactical Air War servers. The latter server I had disconnect issues all day this past Sunday. And yet the tests that the tutorial suggested I run both came out with the same results; neither one required a packet size adjustment... Edited August 13, 2020 by III./SG77-S_Falke addendum

I never saw the 'loss of positional data' messages for myself, so probably my issue is different than yours.
III./SG77S_Falke Posted August 17, 2020 Author Posted August 17, 2020 RedKestrel... I took your suggested document from CombatBox and modified my MTU transmission packet sizes for both my Ethernet and WiFi connections. That seemed to do the trick. Thank you for the suggestion... ? 1
