Long runways for large aircraft?

Hello again, I was wondering if anyone could recommend maps that have the longest runways, so as to properly takeoff with some of the larger aircraft, particularly the well-developed B-24 ?

*edit

In a previous thread someone recommended the Solomon Islands for the B-24. Do you guys know of any others?

I am in holydays at the moment and have only a old notebook and a very old install of il2 1946 available.

On Guadacanal map I suppose on Henderson Field there are 2 runways. 1 of gras and one bigger made of concrete or metal plates. On the bigger I was able made 3 flights (each 4 B24) and 1 flight of 4 A20 to take off as AI planes. The runway is to short but if they take off in north east direction they did not crash. All planes loaded with 100% fuel and 16 bombs.

But maybe in newer versions flight models have been changed.

Some time ago when using the BAT mod  I had the problem that on a map the runways were to narrow and to short. In the full mission builder of these mod there were runway elements available. I placed some of these to make the runways longer / wider.

I copied these stationary objects to a text file and inserted them to each new mission.

Best Regards

I used the canned Normandy map with the small island to the North. It has huge runways and, after TD removed an obstacle towards the East of the South taxiway, all of it played fine (human and AI). If I recall, the full fuel load is not needed on any stock map. Reducing that opens up more airfields.

Thanks for the suggestion. Guadalcanal is good. The concrete runway has plenty of width so there's lots of space for rudder correction during takeoff. It is a little short, like you mentioned, so the aircraft really struggles to gain altitude. I cheated to get it into the air by using level stabilizer around 200 m until I got enough airspeed to ascend more. Not realistic but it works for the game.

I read your post on SAS. I'm not exactly familiar with where to place the text files that you provided. Could you help me out there? Sorry I'm still very new to this game so I'm still figuring a lot of things out.

I loaded up the Normandy2 map on V. 4.13. and there was a small island to the north called British Base. The runway is good but it's the same problem I mentioned above, where the aircraft really struggles to gain altitude. It is doable though. Thanks.

I have now a newer version 4.12.2m available. But only in german, sorry. I will ry to translate.

Translated from german / see the attached screenshots:

You should now try to learn a bit to use the "Full Mission Builder" (in the main menu after the quick mission builder.

Load the Guadacanal map and zoom to the Henderson Airfield.

In the View Menu choose objects.

In the appearing menu change the subcatergory from planes to objects and there are now genaral objects available, all staring with a number.

Number 762 to 862 are airfield runway elements of gras, erth, concrete, metal plates.

Try out the diffrent elements and place on by one.

You can rotate them with the num pad numbers eg. 7 and 9.

I did in a primitive way as example.

You can try and edit the test mission.

If you have adjusted the elements final, make a copy of the mission file, open it with text editor and renumber the elements to very high numbers. You can copy/paste the these text lines to other mission files.

Best regards
