Why the D.520 should probably be on the Axis and not Allied side for Tobruk missions

On every MP server i have joined so far on the Tobruk map has the D.520 put on the Allied side.

And while i dont think any D.520s flew in the Tobruk area having them on the Allied side still makes less sense then having them on the Axis side.

In the timeframe covered by Desert Wings (1941-1942) the primary operator of the D.520 was Vichy France  which had large numbers of D.520s deployed to French North Africa and in

French Syria/Lebanon.

(Since the D.520s that survived the battle of france in 1940 were retained by the Vichy French after the armistice and production was even restarted in order to equip the Vichy French Airforce)

There it saw action against the allies both in 1941 (During the British Syria–Lebanon campaign) and in 1942 (During Operation Torch when Allied forces invaded French North Africa) .

So while the D.520s did not see combat at Tobruk it makes far more sense for them to be added on the Axis side (Representing Vichy French D.520s)

then having them on the Allied side (Since No Allied units at that time flew the type in a combat role).

This will all depend on the mission makers. For historical missions, yes you are correct as far as I know. But for non-historical missions, the makers can do whatever they'd like.

Ofc and i never said you are not allowed to put it on the allied side...

But it seems like most people assume that the D.520 should historically be on the allied side since its a French aircraft.

I made the post to point out otherwise.

Since for historical or semi historical scenarios it makes more sense to have the D.520 on the Axis side in scenarios set in North Africa in 1941-1942 then having them on the allied side

(Since the Allies only had a couple of D.520s that fled from France in 1940 and no spare parts While the Axis had them in Large numbers + spare parts since Production did not stop untill November 1942 when Germany occupied the rest of France during case Anton)

We include the tropical version of the D.520 as a courtesy to our French community.

It really does not belong on the TOBRUK map as none saw service in Libya or Egypt.

They did fly in Syria and Iraq for the Vichy forces during 1941 against Hurricane I's, Tomahawk II's, and again for Vichy later in Nov. 1942 against the Allied Invasion of French North Africa during 'Torch'.

Also flew briefly for the Regia Aeronautica during early 1943 during the defense of Sicily, (used against B-17's) and by the Bulgarian Air Force during 1944, again, against B-17's.

But it is really intended as a Metropolitan French Airforce limited addition to the BLITZ planeset, to replicate the use of this aircraft in late May and early June 1940 during the Battle of France.

Its natural opponents are 109E-1's/E-3's/E-4's.

Indeed.

And i agree that in fully historical scenarios it should not be present.

But since i have seen current MP missions have the D.520 (probably to give the players a chanse to test out the new aircraft)

my point is simply that having it on the Axis side would be less historically incorrect then having it on the Allied side.

Since  while the most historically correct option would be not having it on those missions at all having it on the Axis side is a more realistic compromise

(since its not to far fetched)

then having it be there on the Allied side.

This was not a post aimed at the game or the dev team at all.

It was rather aimed at Server hosts.

As i figured it would be more proactive to post here rather then trying to find Server thread for each new server.

Here's hoping for the inclusion of a Vichy French faction on the axis side with their own set of markings to apply on planes (and not having to rely on skins that have them painted on) at some point in the future.
