esk_pedja Posted August 9, 2020 Posted August 9, 2020 3 Days ago, B-24 Liberator "Impatient Virgin II" was discovered by divers near east Adriatic island of Vis, allegedly lost in a mission on 22 June 1944. It seems that the same plane barely survived heavy rudder damage from Luftwaffe fighter over Austria, by the harsh belly landing on 31 May... Near by, another heavy bomber "Organized Confusion" was discovered last year by divers... Few years ago, also B-24 was discovered at 40 m depth near Croatian peninsula Peljesac. Data so far, has confirmed total of 27 USAAF planes ended in Adriatic sea ( and who knows how much in reality ? ) - but that "rain" of USAAF plains shows: That Luftwaffe in 1944 over Austria and Hungary was seriously aggressive opponent ?!?
Heliopause Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Not just the Luftwaffe I believe. Hungarian, Rumanian, Kroatian fighter planes aswell.
