When flying the single player campaign in Rats Over Tobruk, I can't get the flight path to show up on the map. The mission notes state it's essential to follow the path for it to work. This is driving me nuts. I've deleted the game twice, including deleting the old !c cod and mods in documents folder. I've reinstalled it twice, last time on a fresh drive, and still no path on map view in missions. I have "No Map Path" unchecked in realism settings.

Hi dugite - thanks for the feedback.

This is one of my campaigns and the map issue is a known one.  So its not a problem with your download - rather with how these options are currently implemented.

To help trouble shooting - can u see the map in the pre-flight briefing using the tab in the top right hand corner of the screen?

Three options you could consider are

(a) Unchecking no map icons - see attached images and see if this works.  But if you are like me you may not like having icons on your map as this can detract from the immersion for some

(b) Go old skool and sketch the map onto a piece of paper noting landmarks/turning points etc - this is probably the most realistic option and i used to do this in IL-2/46

(c) Or Options 3 - this was mentioned on this forum recently and i was totally unaware of it.  I think Sokol may have been the person who posted it (sorry if i have mis-ID'd the author).  I have tried it in response to your query and it seems to work.  Here are the steps and refer screen grabs below

1. In options realism make sure no map icons and no map path are unchecked

2. Load campaign and go the screen where the map is displayed if you click on the tab in the top right hand corner

3. Right click on this map and uncheck those options you dont want until you are left with the route and a few others (see screen grab).  Some options dont seem to be removable though but i only spent 5 mins trying.

4. Proceed to game and open map and check to see what you are have showing on your map.  It worked for me as per the screen grab and I'd never done this before.

5. Not sure if you have to repeat for each mission though.

Hope this helps and big thanks to whoever it was that posted this clever procedure recently. If it wasnt Sokol pls let me know and i will update this post with your correct name.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Ezzie, the first "fix" unchecking "no map icons"  and checking "no object icons" solved it for me. Very happy as I've spent 3 days on this, but I'm not complaining, I've been playing with sims since 8086's in the mid 80's and am grateful that they are still being made.....Might be a good fix to put in the quick start guide though?

Cheers

Glad to see we got it sorted dugite.

I'll see what i can do re the quick start guide - i think there may be some updates underway for that although I'm not 100% sure.

Ezzie,

One thing that CloD mission makers forget is inform player (that don't want follow GPS) the mission headings bearings.

If this was done in briefing, can be consulted in flight looking at "briefing" in the backside of Map.

An extra work, since FMB don't have bearings information, but necessary.

Hi Sokol1

Thanks for the feedback.  Its not something i thought about as i was kinda assuming those players who like to nav using the map would use the map tools to work out the route themselves. Having said that I can see why having this info might be useful for some players.

Are you suggesting that there would be a waypoint listing kinda like

WP1: Heading from base 20 degrees

WP2: heading from WP1 292 degrees

WP3: etc

I'll add it to the mission feedback list and see what the other builders think.

Yes, something like this.

Map tools is nice, but is not  really easy for new/casual players use.

BTW - IL-2:GB solve this nicely, showing headings in each map waypoint.

I start modify Quick Mission Cross country, to give a player a navigation challenge, using this "band-aid":

CloD-waypoints.thumb.jpg.15db93d635bb27e17d8839c397f02ee5.jpg

Happens that for several reasons, navigate in CLoD SP result more difficult than should.

Other detail that mission makers oversight, they set in FMB, for example, speed 200, altitude 2000.

But FMB is in metric system, so for player flying in British planes this translate in 127 MPH and 6.561 feet's what we agree is not practical.

For British planes mission maker should do other way around, set in FMB 321 and 621 respectively speed, altitude.

And inform in briefing, in the part available in "backside" of map.

Cruise speed: 200 MPH

Flight Altitude: 2000 feet's

I suggest for Piper Kiev observe this details and he is adapting, he are making a Beaufigher campaign.

Give a look in (Piper Kiev) Dunkirk campaign that I and M_Ben repack, in the briefing are slides with information of plane engine limits, how set compass...

Disclaimer: I was never a typical SP player, nor do I have the creativity to create missions and campaigns, but I think I understand the difficulties, and

expectations of SP players well. ?
