Returning to IL2

Hi

I'm an old IL2 player and stoped flying when the 1946 version was the last one. I'm trying to return and I remember that I've seen the Cliffs of Dover anouncements. I tried to find it and found the BoS one. Now I'm interested in return playing and I wonder if the Battle of Stalingrad is a stand alone version or if I need to get another game. Is the BoS an update for the CoD?
