My joystick and throttle commands have gone.  Is it because I didn't click 'save as'  when I assigned them?

Ok, I checked your manual and it says Windows 10 might be the problem.  I don't think so, as I have that OS and it does not affect the controllers on any other sims I have.  Also, I have all my controllers on a powered USB hub, so what's the problem?

Hello Jabo

There is a section in the Guide which deals with programming your joystick.

Please have a look through that.

I've already done all that, but the manual says nothing with regards to the 'save as' option I mentioned.  What's its purpose?

To put it another way, will it help or hinder me if I click on 'save as' if I reassign the controllers?

This game worked fine before I updated to v5 and purchased Tobruk. Now it's a straight out crash at startup and I have followed all the procedures asked, no Av or firewall during install or testing, 3 complete wipes and installs and still a ctd. There was no issue at all before this update. I also have no issues in any of the IL-2 Great Battles set, including Bodenplatte and Flying Circus. Is it a Windows 10 or NVIDIA issue? I can only hope for a fix as there's nothing more that I can do at my end.

I have W10 Intel CPU, a Turing Nvidia GPU with latest drivers : Clod, nor Tobruk ever crashed.

Maybe your Tobruk Update went wrong somehow ??? ... I let Steam verify the installation b4 and after the update.

(Delete Clod and re-install after saving your settings files ???)

No, once you click in APPLY button current joystick and keyboard setting is saved in ConfUser.ini file in Documents\1C Soft...dover\

You can confirm this making some change, hit APPLY and look what is the date/time ConfUser.ini was updated of look for this assignments (names of commands  in the file is enigmatic and even mix German words in a English file).

SAVE AS and LOAD buttons is for save custom assignment, e.g. one exclusive for Spitfire, or for bombers, etc, so you keep ConfUser.ini and have other files, e.g. Spitfire.ini.

What happens is that Windows Power Management are turning OFF  USB port and putting joy/throttle for sleep, when they wake-up Windows may give then a new ID, so they don't appear in Controls, like in previous play, but keys assigned appear.

So, even if you have used SAVE AS, and then use LOAD will not help because in the saved "****.ini "file the Windows  ID for joystick is different of the new.

An example of ID:

_VKB-Sim_Gladiator_-ABD81779+AXE_Z=1throttle

VKB Gladiator joystick axis Z is assigned for throttle and ID is -ABD81779

An solution in this case is take note of new ID - by momentary assign an axis, but not hit APPLY, and using Notepad, Notepad++ open ConfUser.ini, or your custom saved ****.ini file and usinf find and replace  change the old ID for the new ID, the "-ABD81779" code in the above example.

 I tested this recently, when notice that sometimes JoyToKey are not seeing my joystick.

Since for me JoytoKey is mandatory for play CloD (for mouse emulation for camera control) when I start JoyToKey I know if joystick is sleeping or wake-up,

if is wake-up  "joystick" tab is highlight in Yellow, if not is grayed, if joystick is sleeping I go in Joytokey Options and wake-up. ?

I think I've resolved the issue by implimenting the devreoder utility, as suggested in the troubleshooting guide.

Still the same problem.  Controller assignments have disappeared again.  This is unacceptable and should not be an issue to begin with.  How 1C have the audacity to charge a premium price for this garbage is a disgrace.

Hello Jabo

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.

A common reason people can lose their joystick settings is due to Windows 10 and the power settings for the joystick/pedals.

Windows 10 will turn off the power to these peripherals "...to save power."

As a result, all the joystick programming is lost.

You can solve this 'helpful' Windows 10 feature by going into the Device Manager and unchecking the box to allow this power saving.

Process:

- Right click on the windows logo at the bottom of your page, select 'Device Manager'.

- Open 'Human Interface Devices'

- Right click on each device... select 'Properties'

- Select the 'Power Management' tab

- Uncheck the box which allows Windows to turn off the device to save power

Hopefully this will solve the issue with losing joystick/controller programming.

Hi Buzzsaw,

I would like to suggest to add 2 notes to Getting started and troubleshooting guide:

-Take off: the take off characteristics of the planes are very strong effected by the elevator trim settings

(different for some planes? maybe I am wrong, but it seems to me, when using my hotas rotating axis (+-90°) for elev. trim:

BF109-E7: in neutral position 0° it will climb very strong and bouncing during take off  so I am testing now negativ trim settings

BF109-F4: in neutral position 0° it to make a turn over so I am testing now positiv trim settings

-Offline missions procedure to take off that your wingmen follow your plane and recognize you as a leader:

(It seems to me that I have to use the same procedure as in CLOD :

1.) (only when take off in formation / to avoid collisions with you very fast wingmen)

immediately after mission has started try to roll some 10m to 20m ahead of your formation to have some safety distance.

2.)immediately when you hear the tower radio messages to take off activate auto-pilot. After autopilot starts to accelerate you can deactivate autopilot and take off manually

3.)directly after take off retract your landing gear and activate autopilot again. Short after the autopilot is activated you can see that your wingmen will turn to your plane and take their position in the formation.

4.)deactivate autopilot, now you are the leader of the formation.

This worked during my 7 JG27 campaign missions.

(Please forgive me if I did something wrong and these issues have already been solved)

Best regards

Kraut just in case, instead of this traditional "jugglery" have you tried use the TAB-7-7 command, and in sequence 7-7-6 command?

TAB-7-7 - have no feedback* (in voice or text), I think because no voice sample was linked with the control code (added in Blitz update) - a "ready for takeoff.ogg" is available in Samples.

But this command is required for the next command  became available:

TAB-7-6  - is answered with tower clearance for takeoff for your plane, like when you engage autopilot, you see "takeoff_permitted" on screen and hear a voice.

* Testing in QM sometimes even you sending TAB-7-7 (ready for takeoff) first sometimes tower respond to TAB-7-6 with  "takeoff denied", but when you send TAB-7-6 again is authorized.

Put these sounds in Sample folder, fill some cases of lack of feedback.

Other thing, this commands should be executed only after engine start, and preferable in take off position (if taxi is required).

I am struggling with some strange issues regarding the wellington and bf110.

I have played numerous missions in single engine fighters with no problems whatsoever but in the dover campaign mission where you have to fly the captured German bf110 to another RAF base I cannot take off without engaging the A.I assisted autopilot. The engines just simply cut out.

When flying as the wellington on a raid single mission when the game begins you start in air and two engines are on fire, if i enable the ai autopilot everything is back to normal. Could there be some cockpit controls that need adjusting properly or could it be conflicts with my peripherals ANY help would be appreciated.

For the 110 in the RAF campaign: Look at the two clocks. That’s your prop pitch. It needs to be at 12 o’clock for take off and then you gotta control it during flight since it‘s manual (pitch, not rpm). Use buttons for that as this is what was used in the real aircraft. It‘s easier to control.

You probably got your rpm axis past 50% (as you would to fly RAF aircraft).

Or if you want to use the axis you probably already got bound for the raf aircraft rpm, put it to the opposite of what you would to increase rpm (all the way back I‘d imagine). You should see your clock moving „later“. Put the axis in the middle to stop the clock (your prop pitch changing). Put it to the other end to make it go the other direction.

Prop pitch in axis a/c is the opposite of the raf aircraft, since you control pitch and not rpm.

I have been trying for 3 days now to get Cliffs of Dover Blitz to launch, I made exceptions in the AV, I turned AV off and reinstalled the game and also launched which failed, I unplugged my flight stick, trackIR and nothing. I have read the pdf Getting Started and Troubleshooting with nothing to gain from it. Are there any plans to have this issue resolved by the Devs or did I just purchase a game and DLC I won't be able to play? It's honestly disappointing not to be able to play my new purchase which I picked up via Steam, especially carrying the IL-2 name, I feel as though this shouldn't be an issue players should have to face and requires attention from the Devs, I see on the Steam feed they have time to throw events which I would probably take part in if I could get the game to launch.

Hello Lickn

Could you please check this thread for common failure to launch causes:

Do you have the original game CLIFFS OF DOVER?

If you do, is it still installed?  It should not be installed, only the BLITZ version.

Uninstall it in STEAM, then delete all its folders including those in documents/1C SoftClub/

If this is not the problem, go into documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover, and open the confs.ini file.  (use notepad to open)

Add logging in the file:  (see below)

[Console]
IP=20000
IPS=
LOG=1
LOGTIME=1
LOGFILE=logs.txt
HISTORY=128
HISTORYCMD=128
WRAP=1
PAUSE=1
PAGE=20
LOGKEEP=1

Attempt to launch the game again.  If it fails, go back to the install folder, open the logfile and post here.

I think the conf.ini file which is used by the game and where logging should be enabled is in Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover, not in the game installation (Steam) folder.

Just bought the il2sturmovik Cliffs of Dover game and it has problems. First, the exe wizard file for the joystick was not designed well. I could not access the bottom line on the screen called next without shrinking my display screen to find that button. Anyway, I shrunk the screen and found it. Next, I cannot use the joystick - it does not respond (I use Logitech extreme 3d pro).  I looked over the manual and some of the comments on this page regarding this. The advised solution (I use Win 10) is to turn off the power to usb settings. I did this for all of the settings advised in the manual. This did not work. I still have no joystick. Is there something else I must do? Thanks for your help.

Have you tested this joystick in Windows Game Controllers for assure that his axes and buttons are working OK?

In search bar type:

joy.cpl

The hit enter.

If are OK, try assign axes and buttons in Controls, inside Options in main menu.

Are you sure you were able to program using the Joystick Wizard?

If you were able to program, then you should be getting a response.

Try programming in the manual programming section of the game instead... see the 'Getting Started... Guide".

Also check the numbering of your joystick in Microsoft devices.

The Joystick should be #1.

Try removing the device and then installing again if that was not the problem.
