il2crashesnfails Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 (edited) The performance I find is the biggest difference between the two. With the IL-2 I seem to come to stalls alot faster then with the Havoc. I notice this alot in tight turns. The IL-2 seems to have huge turbo lag/boost lag. Payload the Havoc wins. Especially with bombs. However, The IL-2 wins when talking about cannon. Escpecially with the 23mm and 30mm. Also, I dont think you can fit the Havoc with rockets? Durability is close but I think the A-20 edges out the IL-2 simply because it performs so well on a single engine. Below is an example of a ground strike I performed with the IL-2. I think it show cases its durability, especially with small arm fire. Edited August 6, 2020 by il2crashesnfails 1 2
KG_S_Kalle_Kalutz82 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 The IL-2 is a different concept than the Boston Bomber. I judge per fun: And there the IL-2 wins for me 1

Line up a high speed attack dive, drop your bombs on a row of targets, and get the heck out of dodge. The engine power and the low wing loading let you accelerate quickly and you can outmaneuver fighters at times. For tank columns and vehicles I would take the Il-2. I am not accurate enough with bombs to kill them reliably with the new DM, so having some cannons, and the ability to line up attacks and shrug off some small arms fire, is really key, especially for moving tanks. 1

It wasn't designed for the role, and is really too big and unprotected to be even used in this way if there is a possibility of flak. The IL-2 isn't quite the flying tank that its reputation makes out, but its smaller size, armour and manoeuvrability make for a better chance of survival in multi-pass attacks. 1 1
HR_Tumu Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 and from last patch, il2 can survive easy to first enemy attack with a bit of lucky... i mean, maybe you cant continue attaking ground but maybe can rtb..... on previous patch IL2 was more easy to shot down... on first attack. This bit increase of survival is a great notice for il2 sturmovik virtual pilots before, was very fustrant, the " flying tank" needed same love than yak ( i mean in terms of hits needed for shotdown) 1

Don't forget the PTABs that are available on the later IL-2's, these little critters are highly destructive against tanks and stuff like that. When the Yak-9 was announced I was hoping for a 9B version as they also carried the PTABs...it would have been awesome 1
Avimimus Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 Now if we had the A-20G1 with 4x20mm cannons or if we had rockets for the A-20 it might be a bit more complicated. 1
il2crashesnfails Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 Anyone know what the red light is that turns on at 7:24?
THERION Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 5 hours ago, il2crashesnfails said: Anyone know what the red light is that turns on at 7:24? Yep, this is actually your gunner telling you to break (left = red, green = right) - intercom wasn't present in IL2 or if so, not very reliable. If you watch your video again, you will notice that you're being attacked on your final approach (flak is also trying to protect the airfield). 1 1
HotPursuit Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 According to Developers Update 2.010 posted May 11, 2017 a single flash red light from gunner to pilot means "we're being engaged". 1
