Jnelson Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Hello, I got the game yesterday, absolutely love it. Just a couple of problems. I am getting terrible lag and stuttering both in the menu screen and in game. Normally around the populous city area with 1 other fighter I get around 30fps on balanced settings and anti aliasing 2 however I get major 0.5 second stutters when looking from centre to left or right. Also this is with only one plane, adding 16 planes and my framerate goes down to around 20-25fps at best. My framerate on any of the multiplayer server is normally around 15-20fps depending on the number of players. Does anyone know anything that I may be missing because I thought this game should at least run a little better on my system: CPU: AMD FX6350 3.9GHz GPU: EVGA GTX660 2GB (SC) RAM: 8GB Corsair 1500Mhz Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 AM3+ Hard Drive: 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda PSU: Corsair 500 Watt Also hardware for the game I am using: Logitech Extreme 3d Pro Stick Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals TrackIR 4 If someone knows a fix please help would be greatly apreaciated since I love this game so much. Thanks -Nelson Edited May 10, 2014 by Jnelson
Jnelson Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) I agree you should get better performance with that system. Here are things I'd look at to try and isolate the cause. Are you using up-to-date video card drivers? Have you tried disabling the Cinematic Camera? This seems to show things down on some systems. Have you tried without TrackIR running? Have you tried 'flying' with autopilot only? I have cinematic camera disabled, what do you mean by flying with autopilot only?, There are some new drivers just going to update see if it fixes the problem. Edited May 10, 2014 by Jnelson
Jnelson Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Check utilization of CPU and GPU as well. I checked when I was flying over stalingrad with 1 other plane at around 30fps and both the CPU and GPU are around half. Just finishing installing the drivers I'll tell you the results. I can't imagine much improvement though. What do you thing my system should be running at? Edited May 10, 2014 by Jnelson
Jnelson Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Hard to say, I'd be more concerned about the 0.5 second stutters than the overall FPS at this stage. Other people are having issues at low altitude, the devs have said they're looking at a fix for that. Not sure if that's related to your issue though. Okay it looks like the stutters are a little improve they only seem to be initially now, when I have just loaded in the mission and framerate has gone up by about 5 fps. Any other ideas?
Jnelson Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Is not unusual for a game to be a bit stuttery at the beginning after loading into a level as textures and assets are often still being loaded into memory. As long as this doesn't persist and affect gameplay. One thing you might consider is defragging your HD. (Assuming it's not an SSD!) This is a bone of contention with many people claiming it's no longer necessary. I'm of the opinion that it can't hurt and if your data clusters are closer together, rather than spread out all over the platter, it must be faster for the system to access them. I view it as something that can't hurt and might help. Does the game feel smoother and overall more playable now? Bear in mind, the developers will still be optimising the game further in the coming months so I think we can all expect some slight performance improvements. It does feel more playable now thanks, Haven't tried MP but I don't expect any miricales, it is probably just not optimised for the AMD CPUs yet, like with most games. I'll try defragging my HD also.
