taffy2jeffmorgan Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Hi All. I thought I would fly the new Lav 5 , very nice, handles well and a good turn of speed, take off/ landing a breeze ! so thought I would test the guns, so I selected a one lonely JU 87, me at 1200 mt, the 87 at 1000. I'm not sure if the A1 has been improved but that JU 87 out flew me, it out turned me, put a round through my engine, so had to do a wheels up and came to rest intact !!!. So had another try, we both got each other smoking, he flew off and I bailed out !!! And I thought that I'v been doing very well up until now, dog fighting !!! anyone else been surprised by these computer generated pilots. I thought that a nice touch of attention to detail which I witnessed recently, I had just landed a IL-2 after a long ground attack practice, after stopping the engine, it would not completely shut down [pre-ignition] and took sometime to stop, what else can we expect ??? Cheers. JM.
SR-F_Winger Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Obviously youre doing something wrong. Activate boost and keep energy advantage so she cant reach you. The JU might turn tighter since she is much slower than you. Just BnZ her and shes a sitting duck.
Endy Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Nice story, give the stuka some bombs, that will slow it down. I've also seen the pre-ignition you mention. Another nice touch, after a heavy bumpy landing, I was surprised to find that nothing was broken. I then set off to slowly taxi to the airfield, when one side of my undercarriage collapsed, Endy.
Blackcloud Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Do you know I had exactly the same experience. I thought I was going to be the only one. Me and the LA-5 just do not get along. I changed it up and put a Yak 1 in the same position and that was the end of the stuka. So very weird.
ParaB Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 The Ju-87 turns rather well without bombs. Same for the IL2. In the original Il2 sim many not-so experienced fighter pilots learned the hard way that getting into a turn fight with them wasn't a good idea. You're MUCH faster in a La-5. And you climb better. Use the strengths of your aircraft and a Ju-87 won't stand a chance against a La-5.
I/JG27_Rollo Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Nice story, give the stuka some bombs, that will slow it down. Well, the Stuka will just drop its bombs and engage you nontheless...
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Yeah, I went down into the middle of a formation of 4 Stukas, thinking I would dive through and extend to re-engage. Nope. I guess I wasn't fast enough; one of them got some shots on me as I was leaving and created work for the airframes guys. RoF also makes it hard to shut down engines when they were hot.
wtornado Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I wouldn't of mentioned it I was out flown an shot down by a Stuka. 2
SeriousFox Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Stuka is great. I managed to shot down Pe-2 with short burst of MGs.
HagarTheHorrible Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I had a hell of a time trying to down a Stuka on the QMB. Closing the cowl flaps and finding the boost button certainly helped next time around though.
HagarTheHorrible Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Go vertical, stop turning in circles.I think all those Star Wars movies on TV at the moment are getting to you. To be fair it was my first flight in the La-5, but once I slowed down to his level he was all over me. Then I found the boost button :-)
FuriousMeow Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) What? He clearly said it out-turned him. Stop turning in circles, transfer speed for altitude and go vertical then get the speed back when diving. Edited May 10, 2014 by FuriousMeow
HagarTheHorrible Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 What? He clearly said it out-turned him. Stop turning in circles, transfer speed for altitude and go vertical then get the speed back when diving. Sorry, obviously not connecting humour wise I'm still a little non plused though. I'm still having trouble with him and it's not as if he's even set to veteran or Ace. If I blow through a head on pass before trying to extend in a gentle climbing turn he's up my backside and chewing lumps out of me. I later followed the Stuka around in what I judged as best I could to be pure pursuit. He was turning moderately hard on the level as I followed without trying to press him or get a shot. My HUD read a fairly steady 390-400 kph which I thought was supposed to be pretty much his best speed and not one that he should have been able to achieve in a moderate to hard sustained turn. Certainly it might possibly have been achievable in a diving turn but surely i would have been left to watch him spiral down as he strove to get away while I maintained the high ground and thus the advantage ?
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 What I don't understand is how he is chewing stuff out of you after the merge. If you have a solid top speed after the merge you can translate that into a superior position in angle or altitude. I don't have the La-5 but I'll give this a go in the LaGG-3 and see what the issue is. The Ju87 in a dogfight situation has limited options but slow speed turn is pretty much it. You might have too much angle in this gentle climbing turn... so you're bleeding speed and he's cutting the corner on your turn just enough to be able to maintain a firing position.
TJT Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I think all those Star Wars movies on TV at the moment are getting to you. "Hit space to do a barrel roll!"
FuriousMeow Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Sorry, obviously not connecting humour wise You should have said "do a barrel roll" and that would have made more sense to me (Starfox 64 reference). The only Star Wars I would know in this manner is "use the force Luke" just as he's turning off his targeting computer to shoot down the exhaust port on the "Death Star."
69th_chuter Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 ... after stopping the engine, it would not completely shut down [pre-ignition] and took sometime to stop, what else can we expect ??? Cheers. JM. You won't have this issue when we get mixture control. Proper shutdown is (or should be) mixture to idle cutoff (shuts off fuel flow) and then when prop stops mags off.
migmadmarine Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I've always thought it was a nice touch that this and ROF include dieseling. I remember doing a winter career mission in an Albatros D.II, and having my radiator shot out. I made it home with my engine massively over temp, but still hanging on, and after I shut down it took a good 30 seconds for the engine to come to a halt.
J4SCrisZeri Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 your not sure , sir? I am damn sure: AI is a killer now (expecially the Stuka rear turrets), and enemy is much more difficult to hit. when hit, damage looks similare to previous updates, but before that, good luck hitting an enemy plane!
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I actually had the exact same happen to me. The only difference was that I was 200m higher in altitude. I'm too accustomed to the La-5 in '46. I chalked it up to "New game, not used to it, I just need to practice." I flew it again in a Yak-1 and, predictably, downed it.
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 S! Shooting something down in a Stuka and seeing the pilot rage quit because of that. Priceless. 1
dburne Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 So I loaded up a quick mission, me and two others in Yak's, against three Stukas. Holy crap, did I get my butt handed to me by that Stuka LOL Thought I might have easy meat for a change, denied!
Bearcat Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Might wanna take another look at the forum rules. Indeed...
