cowlings not working for me

Tried the P47 for first time today. I've always flown water cooled planes with no problem, but when using the designated key binding for opening and closing cowlings, I get absolutely no response. Are there some other key or keys I have to use first to make the plane accept the bindings opening and closing the key bindings?

First, you need to be mapping to the action designated P-47 (along with some other planes), not the generic shutter control. Second, do they work in the control menu preview and not in the game, or do they not work in neither?
