crewmen going on Autopilot ?

I am still learning the game and trying to figure out what are the controls required to make a crewman act on his own

 

I was in game, touched something, and all of a sudden, the Crew Commander of the Sherman tank I was in became inaccessible and was acting on his own, up and down the turret and shooting

 

any insight please

It's wonky at best still. By default its Ctrl+A (while sitting in the driver-mechanic position) afaik.
