bino Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I think I may have an issue related to the difference between the license for IL-2 BOS when bought via Steam vs when bought directly from 1C Game Studios. I bought IL-2 BOS (and IL-2 COD and some DLC) via Steam. If I start SteamVR first, I can run either version of IL-2 (with my DLC) with no show-stopper issues on my new Oculus Rift S. But I read - and have been told - that performance is better in several particulars if it is run via OpenComposite. However, if I try to run IL-2 BOS via OpenComposite instead of SteamVR, the opening screen of IL-2 BOS is different: it prompts me for a login, and once I'm in, does not show any of my DLC. Back when I first ran my Steam-bought copy of IL-2 BOS, the initial login process took me through a "liking" step for the Steam ID and the 1C Game Studios ID. But running IL-2 BOS via OpenComposite, it doesn't seem to see that. Is there a way to fix this?
E69_Qpassa_VR Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 You haven't linked your account from this website with your steam account
bino Posted July 26, 2020 Author Posted July 26, 2020 Thanks, but I'm pretty sure that I did, during the initial login to IL-2 back when I was still using my old TrackIR. I can still login to IL-2 via SteamVR with my new Rift, no problem. The issue arises when I bypass SteamVR and try to use OpenComposite, instead. Without the SteamVR login, IL-2 thinks I'm not linked. Thank you for your reply, though!
dburne Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 (edited) I am not that familiar with running Open Composite with a Steam version of the game. However I would think if you have the switcher in Open Composite set to use Open Composite rather than Steam VR, then launching the game via Steam should launch the game using Open Composite. So try: Make sure Open Composite Switcher is set to Open Composite rather than Steam VR. Do not launch Steam VR. Launch the game as you normally would from Steam ( with VR checked in game settings of course). I would "think" the game should render the VR through Open Composite rather than Steam VR. But I have no way to test that myself. Steam and Steam VR are two different programs. You should be launching the game through Steam as you have the Steam version of the game. Other than that, I am afraid you will have to wait and hope someone that has the Steam version of the game that has successfully run it with Open Composite to explain to you how they did it. bino Posted August 5, 2020 Author Posted August 5, 2020 Thank you, dburne. The game does indeed launch under OpenComposite. My issue seems to be related to the license. I guess I'll just have to accept that buying through Steam was suboptimal.

I have BoS and the other expansions via Steam and I can run the game with OpenComposite with no issues whatsoever. I have collector planes via the 1C store too, and they show up just fine. So yeah, no issues with Steam + OpenComposite here.
YoLolo69 Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Like others I have a mix of things bought from the official website and from Steam and I launch successfully the game using OpenComposite, with all my DLC (plane, missions, etc.) inside. I launch my game not using Steam but directly with a shortcut to the IL-2 executable. The side problem it's just Steam itself (which still manage all game updates) thinking I only played 2 hours of the sim Possibly you should check all your keys activated products on the IL-2 main web site (here if you're connected: https://il2sturmovik.com/store/license-keys/)?
=420=Syphen Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Very strange. I bought BoS on steam originally and all subsequent modules, standalone. I have 2x installs of IL-2, one steam, and one standalone as a result. Both launch and run just fine with OpenComposite and a Rift S. You have a local issue that I don't think is license related - unless the linking didn't work. If that is the case then you need to deal with 1C's tech support. No one on the forums can help you.
bino Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 I guess something about the linking did not work, then. Thanks, all, for the replies! <S>
