A friend and I struggled with the #10019 error and eventually it worked when he hosted. We chocked it up to wiping out the firewall rules and recreating them automatically when we launched Il-2 BoS. At least we thought that fixed it because it just started working after that change. Multiplayer continued to work fine until last weekend. We stopped the server to swap out a coop mission and when I tried to reconnect I got the #10019 after a long wait (the original problem).

I am able to connect fine to other servers, so we thought it was his setup. We went back through all the old troubleshooting steps, port forwarding, firewall rules, firewall off, etc. Another friend finally got Il-2 BoS two days ago and he is able to connect to my other friend's server. We're at a loss now. It doesn't make sense that I can connect to other servers and not his, when our other friend can connect to his? We're just doing multiplayer through the game and not Dserver. Any ideas on what to try next?

Thanks

Keep in mind if you dont set a static IP then usually anytime your router loses power or resets it will change the IP for your computer and devices(port forward settings wont match) so you may want to recheck that.

I've been trying to play coop with my brother for 3 weeks now with no luck. We both get the same 10019 error, doesnt matter if I try to host or he does. Have gone thing all the steps, checking ports, firewall(even disabled it to test if worked), ant virus disable, revalidate the game in steam, delete and reinstall, set the correct ip/ports in multiplayer settings. I did originally set my router to forward ports 80 and 443 (along with 28000 for TCP/UDP and 28100 for TCP) and of course didnt work so I called my ISP to see if maybe they were blocking the ports no matter what and they said no and that they keep ports 80 and 443 open by default. They tested to see if they could connect to my router through ports 80 and 443 and they couldnt. They said because they are already op by default that if I set them to forward it could cancel it out and actualy block the ports so I remove the port forwarding. They tested again and they could now connect through ports 80 and 443. I thought for sure that was going to be my issue, tried again with my brother a little bit ago and NOPE, still get same error. I really love this game, it amazing in VR and would be even more amazing to play with my brother. I just cant believe its this hard to play coop. I also can connect to the regular multiplayer servers no problem. I sent in a tickets for tech help and was told the 10019 error means its an issue on my end not the game, as in something on my end is blocking the coop from connecting like firewall or ports not allowing entry. I dont know what else to check and am at a loss and I see a lot of other posts over the years of other people having the same issue but eventually they resolved it somehow, but I have spent hours reading and done all things they have and I still can not connect. I've seen posts about people using dserver but I've read you dont need that but I'm thinking maybe I might try that just to see if it works. Anyone have another other ideas for me as well??

Hi JimTM,

Thanks for the response. My friends and I did see that post and the only thing we haven't tried is the VPN solution. We have this on hold for now because our third friend is able to host coop multiplayer that we can all join. It's getting confusing with three data points now, so here is where we are,

Craig hosting - Dave can connect. Buzz cannot

Dave hosting - Buzz and Craig can connect

Buzz (me) hosting - Dave and Craig cannot connect

I spot checked connecting to other servers, mainly ones that don't require a password, and I am able to connect to all I've tried I just can't connect to Craig.

Other steps I've tried,

I installed Il-2 on another PC in the house and it behaves exactly like my gaming PC.

I connected my Carrier POE adapter directly into my PC, bypassing my home router. Same behavior, I connect to everyone except Craig.

I don't believe this is a Il-2 issue because we see the exact same behavior with DCS World. I also don't think it's my PC since I replicated the same behavior on another PC. The only thing I can think of is that my ISP has heartburn over Craig's ip. I was going to contact them today. Craig contacted his ISP to make sure I wasn't being blocked and they confirmed that I wasn't.

Whatever the issue is, I think it's in Il-2 and DCS's best interest to know the answer because there sure seems to be a lot of players impacted by this.

I wanted to update this issue as I have a work around and possible culprit that is causing the problem.

In continuing to troubleshoot the problem I disabled my net connection through my ISP and connected to my phone as a hot spot. This bypassed my ISP and also attempted to connect with a different IP address. This actually worked, but it is not a optimum solution. I called my ISP and had a good discussion with one of the network admins. We both suspect a firewall at the provider. He's unable to set me up to bypass that firewall for now, but the ability is coming. I suspect he has the same problem because he also wants out of that firewall. <grin>

During the chat with the admin it got me thinking about my employer's VPN. I don't typically login to it from my gaming rig unless I'm doing research and need access to certain libraries. I logged in and then tried connecting to Craig's Il-2 server and it works again. I can also connect to his DCS server as well. I suspect I was logged in to my VPN when it worked for a short period before.

Using the VPN is my work around for now until my ISP can get me off the firewall. That might fix it or it might not. I realize not everyone has access to a VPN, but a quick way to see if your ISP is a potential problem is to try your phone as a hot spot.

In summary, if you are unable to connect to a friend's server, but can connect to other servers is,

Make sure they have the right ports forwarded

Make sure the windows firewall rules are in place

See if anyone else can connect to determine if the problem is their hosting setup or your connecting route

Use a VPN if you have access to one

Try your phone's hot spot. If it works then contact your ISP and ask if they have firewall rules in place preventing your game traffic

Good luck if you're having this problem. Flying mulitplayer is sooooooooo much better today than when Dave, Craig, and I were beta testers for the Air Warrior series. Anyone remember those? ;)

I had the similar issues in January. It was caused by the router that was provided by my ISP (firmware isn't suited for gaming, only for browsing)

Solved it by replacing the router with a different model.
