Disappearing clouds and gunsight reticule

Is this a known issue?

Looking ahead everything is fine but if I move my head slightly the clouds disappear as does the gunsight glass.  Noticed it a few times.

Correct, it's a known issue along with a few other related intermittent visual glitches. Maybe fixed with 5.0  upgrade or with the proposed new weather engine for next year.

Yes you've reached the particle limit.

Never had a gunsight reticle on anything in CLOD.

Another one of the many reasons I gave up on CLOD, which has been one massive disappointment from day 1. I don't hold out much hope for 5.0 either. After the Blitz edition I won't be expecting anything. All Blitz did was make it look prettier. It didn't make it playable.

Did you turn your gunsight on?

Probable a broken lamp... why in Spitfire cockpit have some spares. :)

On serious side,  in aircraft spawn gunsight are OFF.

You need use the command "Toggle Gunsight illumination" or "Increase/Decrease Gunsight Illumination".

And if electric circuit, battery is damaged in combat, gunsight goes off for good.

As has been mentioned, you need to turn on your gunsight otherwise you won't see the illuminated reticle.

Some aircraft you can adjust the level of brightness to your taste.... and as mentioned, it can also be damaged in combat.

The OP is posting almost the same picture with his head slightly turned. The clouds and gunsight reticle have disappeared. There's a couple of ATAG server maps (LeHavre is one) in particular where we see this occur. It's inconsistent and I have no insight why,  'reached the particle limit'  Spiritus wrote, beyond my understanding hehe. What's being described has been noted by many.

S!

Have not encountered this issue yet. Is It related to amount of GPU or system memory, or something else? Game engine limitation per particle amount? Still, has not been an issue for me.

Right, there's a spot over Caen where it almost always happens. Unfortunately only almost and not everytime, which makes it hard to debug. But I will.

We hope to introduce a new Cloud and Weather system approx. 3-4 months after release.

This will eliminate this type of problem... as the new clouds will run off the GPU instead of the CPU.

The mythical "particle limit" is the limit where game objects like clouds and FX particles reach the maximum number the code can "keep track of" and it spits the dummy and stops rendering all "particles" until the number of visible particles is back below the limit. Theres a lot of very technical mathematical reasons for this occuring. There has been work to increase that limit, and as Buzzsaw has said, the new weather system will take the clouds (which use a lot of particles) out of the equation. DWT (once the new weather is implemented) should see the end of this bug for all intents and purposes. If you stack a huge number of FX particles it will still be possible to reach that limit, but in any remotely reasonable situation you will not.

Thanks for the clear explanation and fab news on the remedy.
