UV2/ Po2. Career

I bought the UV2 a while back but was unable to enjoy it due to the frame rate hit low level flying brought about until this past weekend when I upgraded y graphic card.

Wow, what a joy to fly now that I can enjoy the full detail that this sim can offer!

That said, I started a career with the 763 night light bomber aviation regiment in the Kuban scenario, and while immensely fun to fly, the missions and the AI leave much to be desired.

Despite the night bomber designation, the first mission of the day began at 7:30AM taking us to bomb a hard point in the German lines.  Being a human flyer, I could easily avoid the AAA that our flight path took us over en route to target.  Unfortunately, the same could not be said of my companions who flew straight and level one after the next, only to be shot down before they even reached the objective.  After taking a long route around the flack batteries I dropped my bombs from the rear of the position and egressed at low (under treetop) level to safety while my tail gunner picked off enemy positions.  Of special note was my satisfaction that the enemy AAA managed to take out a few of their own troops in their attempt to shoot me down as I flew between them and the artillery! Shame that those kills don't count!

The second mission of the day was much the same, attack an artillery position, take off 15:30.  This went as the first, me as a human pilot avoiding emplacements until attacking from the undefended side while my companions fell in droves following their straight to the target course.  On this mission I went with a load out of bombs and rockets.  Despite destroying a pair of guns with the rockets, the mission was considered incomplete.  It was only upon dropping the bombs that the mission was deemed complete.

So, a few questions...

First, the issue of a night bomber squadron being assigned daytime missions, will it be addressed?
Second, despite being a low and slow attacker, the AI relies on standard dive bomber tactics to their doom.  Is this in the works?
Third, taking a load-out other than intended can apparently result in a failed mission, even though the mission objectives are achieved.  Is this a known issue?  I took a load out of rockets and bombs, and only after the bombs were dropped was the mission successful, despite rocket hits.

All that said, today, skimming the treetops and dropping bombs at the speed I drive on the Autobahn was a real thrill!  I'm amazed at the detail and immersion (Though I do miss my force feedback since the second to last update), and I hope that we can improve the AI and career mission generator to at least help my squadron to come back with more than 2 out of every 6 planes sent out!

I will take a look and see what the issue is.

Super, thanks!

If you can have a word to the devs about allowing the U2 to take off and land from open fields that would be great too.  They usually operated much closer to the frontlines before returning to their home base at dawn.

Yeah, that was something else I forgot to mention.  Our first airbase in the career is soooo far from the frontline that even with 8 times time compression it takes about 20 minutes real time to even get to the front.  Either we need forward operating bases, or more time compression (16x, 32x).
