I wish something could be done to that 2002style craters at no mans land, this is so clumsy made.

I think the team which made the map blew their budget on cathedrals and had to go with the CFS3 textures for no-man's land.

Nah. They're just thinking ahead when they do a moving front. Easier to implement.

To do craters properly they'd have to create a subterranian level, which I'd expect would be a lot of work.

Good case to say if anything should have a sub-level though, it's a ww1 game.

Would it be possible to use some form of bump mapping to give the craters more of a 3D look? I remember Ankor's mod in ROF made a huge difference in the 3D appearance of the landscape.
